Re: Exhaust pipe

Cedarranch - I remember the sound the ones on the farm when I was a kid used to make. I was kinda hoping that maybe they'd quieted them down a bit, but the design probably hasn't changed in the last 50 years or so. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

With the small exhaust pipe and the turbo charger smoothing out the air flow, I doubt I'll ever get any Harley sounds out of the Earthforce. But if I do, I'll just tell people it's Harley-Davidson's new TLB machine. That would make more sense to most of them than telling them the truth... /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Exhaust pipe \"flapper\" source

bgott - Your remark made me laugh because it brought to mind a story a friend of mine tells about the time he started a bulldozer that he didn't have any business on. He said it sounded really strange for a couple seconds, then chugged one time and died. About a second later, an 18" section of iron pipe landed on the hood a couple feet in front of him. Guess where it came from? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Exhaust pipe \"flapper\" source

Mark,
All the Tisco dealers will have them. I have one on the Farmall; it cost about $4.00. It works really well.

So far though, it ain't made my Farmall sound like my Harley though. She sounds really good, but nuthin like the thunder off my hogs pipes/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Actually my hog makes a nice rumble; loud pipes may save lives, but I still toned it down a bit.

Re: Exhaust pipe \"flapper\" source

Robertn, speaking of the Harley hog, have you seen the water cooled Harleys yet? I was at a Harley dealer yesterday and they had two (one they had just done a couple of things to and sold it for $32,000)./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Re: Exhaust pipe

"loud pipes may save lives"

Robert, I sure hope you really don't believe that. Please say that was just a quote to lead into the plea to tone it down a bit! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif or a lot (ie. stock pipes)

Some redneck blew past my wife with a loud bike and scared her so bad she ran off the road thru a ditch and into a pasture.
$3800 in damage and a terrified 2 year old child. He was so terrified that every time he heard loud pipes he would start screaming and crying. She said she did not hear the bike until after he passed her. "loud pipes saves lives" is nothing more than a moron's attemp at justifying his ignorance.

Re: Exhaust pipe

cedarranch, I agree, they can send a man to the moon, but can't make a muffler for a Harley? The jap bikes are quiet, why not the hogs? If I was a cop I would ticket everyone of those morons with the loud bikes! O.K. I'll get off the soap box now

Re: Exhaust pipe

The stock harley from the factory is fairly quiet. Not like a jap bike, but quieter than a lawn mower. But lots of bikers remove the stock EPA pipes and install loud ones. Then to support it they spout "loud pipes saves lives!"

Re: Exhaust pipe

You'll be happy with the one from TSC, if it is anything like mine... I bought one for an older tractor I had ( in this case, i replaced the top of the curved stack, to make it longer.. when i sold the tractor, the new owner wanted the old curved pipe rather than the flapper.... so i kept it.. ) Now it is on my other tractor.... still going.

I painted it black with that high temp bbQ grill black paint.. looks just like the rest of the stack.
