Try and find a hydraulic shop nearby and take the seal there ans see if they can match one up to yours. Some older fellers have great experience doing this, and can help you find one that might work for you.

Thank you all for the replies. I have located a shop that will likely be able to size and match the seals. Now just need some warmer weather here in Maine and will be tearing into it. Thanks again.

This is one of the key reasons I didn't buy green. There are far too many examples of things like seals being just a slightly enough different size so that competitive parts aren't available.

<And Username Taken> Oh stop it. ALL colour OEMs do this to a certain extent... they have the part already manufactured for your needs. If you want to source a different manufacturer/fabricator then, fine.

The first time that I needed a replacement fuel filter for my 4105 I was stopped in the field during haying season. I didn't know if the local Auto-parts shop had a 'generic' replacement so I called my JD Dealership to see if they did, and they did. The next morning I drove early there (and they opened up early for me!); it was a four-hour round trip. I was back in business.

Later on I inquired at my local Auto-parts shop if they did have the filter and, yes, they did... for a A$1.50 less.

JD did not rip me off.

I would say that's an exception and not the norm. Most of the time there is a much larger price disparity between dealer pricing and third party parts suppliers. At least that is the way it is here in the U.S.

And U think small items like seals filters etc are a problem?
Just wait 'til your nice fancy $$ tractor bogs down in the middle of planting or haying season and it stops giving U a code that only a dealer can read!
and he is closed 'til Monday AM.
Face it guys, gone are the days of bailing wire, vice grips and a 5 lb hammer.
Then to protect themselves (liability U know) only a factory trained person has access to the code reading computers.

Yes this has been my experience at times but other times Deere has been cheaper. One eg. I have two Dodge Cummins so I need oil filters. If I buy them one at a time they are around the $7-8 mark at the local John Deere for a John Deere filter. To get that same price in a Fleetguard filter from from the local dealerships I have to buy 12 at a time. It pays to shop around.

Well, for me it is the 'norm' and 'an exception' to you. Perhaps it's because of were I live; on an island State with a population of 519,000 (2016).

A dealership (any colour) lives & dies on their reputation (price, parts & service) here in Tassie. Reputation is king and word of mouth is swift amongst the state-wide community. I cannot speak for mainland Australia, but that's the way it is here. Mind you, we've got a fairly big moat around us which plays into shipping time and costs.

Now, I've just read PILOON's posting (#15) and I know for a fact that that situation wouldn't happen here in Tassie (especially during haying/planting/harvesting season). The Longford JD dealership has at least 3 mobile service/repair utes ready to go at all times. There are two other JD dealerships (same 'company') located in the State with a similar set-up.

Maybe I live in some magical fantasy land, but that's the way it is here.

Precisely why I stated in my comment:

Different countries, different scenarios.

In the US .....

-- Corporations have a great deal of court protected leeway in jerkin' us little guys around.
-- Corporate dealer networks have been buying out the independent JD dealers with the full backing of JD corporate.

I understand... it's also why I said that I don't know what the situation is on mainland Aus.

Getting back to the OP, the way that I see it is that the choice is between getting the OEM part (= already made and to the specifications required. Ready to ship/get it to you) and searching for a 'better deal (= sourcing the part <perhaps having that part made to the specifications required>, all the time spent 'getting' the part and then shipping it to you). This applies to all colour OEMs.

It's a balance of your time & money.
