Expensive JD parts Please Help

I have found that Massey Ferguson isn’t any better at saving their customers
Money on parts. They are actually worse than Deere, finding parts for my Massey
anywhere other than the dealer is impossible and the reason I won’t buy another.

I have a Deere as well and don’t find Deere parts as expensive or as hard to find as
Massey.

Sorry all,
I wouldn't paying a reasonable price at the dealer, as I stated in the original post no oil seal should cost $45 let alone $65. Wagtail sounds like you have had good service from your dealer. Without getting into specifics, My experience has been absolute $#!t. I like my green tractor but the service would make pause before I buy another.

Yeah Mate... it's probably why I get a wee bit defensive when a bit of green colour bashing comes into play. I simply don't see it here (in this obviously fantasy land that I live in ). The blokes here don't deserve to be tarred with the same brush as any of the, unfortunately, sub-par operations that are out there.

Truth be told, I haven't heard a bad word about any of the other colour dealerships here in Tassie... but I always hear good things about the JD dealership.

Face it guys, gone are the days of bailing wire, vice grips and a 5 lb hammer.

Well, not for us!! Who needs power steering and a shuttle shift , our 35 yr. old Mitsubishis are as reliable as that 5lb hammer!

Well, for me it is the 'norm' and 'an exception' to you. Perhaps it's because of were I live; on an island State with a population of 519,000 (2016).

A dealership (any colour) lives & dies on their reputation (price, parts & service) here in Tassie. Reputation is king and word of mouth is swift amongst the state-wide community. I cannot speak for mainland Australia, but that's the way it is here. Mind you, we've got a fairly big moat around us which plays into shipping time and costs.

Now, I've just read PILOON's posting (#15) and I know for a fact that that situation wouldn't happen here in Tassie (especially during haying/planting/harvesting season). The Longford JD dealership has at least 3 mobile service/repair utes ready to go at all times. There are two other JD dealerships (same 'company') located in the State with a similar set-up.

Maybe I live in some magical fantasy land, but that's the way it is here.

I can't speak for JD, but here in Indiana my NH dealer took care of me. The joy stick for controlling the bucket broke. They had me up and running in under 24 hrs and that included having to order a part. I own the smallest tractor NH makes. The dealer lives on selling huge farm equipment but made sure to take care of me. You bet your butt if anyone asks me where to buy that dealership gets the nod.

I also buy filters and such from them just to help keep them around. I know it is not much, but it is the only business I can throw them.

You may complain about JD prices now. Wait till you try and fix that machine years down the road. MY FIL had a 4020 and I still have a 550 dozer and a 450b track loader. No issues getting parts for them and the 550 is around a 1970 model year. I just rebuilt the undercarriage in it and couldn't find some odds and ends aftermarket. JD had them to me in a couple days. I agree seals and bearings are expensive though. I usually try aftermarket first when it comes to fixing equipment, but when all else fails I can still get what I need.

Another Mitsubishi driver here. (MT180D)

IMHO built like a brick outhouse.
Basic, DIY repairable.
I have all the books which help greatly.

My only downfall is that NOBODY makes my tires anymore. (9.5 x 18R3)

My armstrong steering works just fine LOL.

We don't NEED a lot of things. People today just WANT a lot of things.
Many of which they can't afford but buy anyway.

I had 6.00-12 fronts and 8.3-24 rears. When it came time for new tires I went with 7.00-12 fronts and 9.5-24 rears. I can tell the tractor has a little harder time turning the larger tires over but I just use a lower gear than I used to in certain circumstances and the increased traction is more than worth it...plus I love the "meatier" look!

Armstrong steering is a much bigger deal after I put an endloader on mine! I actually have all the components to convert to PS, just haven't made the time to fabricate everything I need to make the switch.

I have used Green Parts Store for all my JD parts for years, generally you just can't beat their prices!!! An extreme example was new control cables for my old F680 mower. Local dealer wanted over $300, GPS was about $50! The only thing my local dealer has matched was their price on Deere hydraulic fluid for my Z930, otherwise I have bought from GPS.
