Bud the key to an accurate reading of the meter is to be mounted level. If mounted at an angle it can give misleading readings. If it is mounted level you said that it had 17" drop in 4 foot is that how wide your tractor is or does the slope very. But I believe it's in your best interest to give R&B a call to get to the bottom of your problem. I know he is a straight shooter and stands behind his product.----good luck

For what it's worth I bought the 7489c and tested it against a protractor with a string and a weight tied to the string. The difference was minimal at best so I was happy with its accuracy. Not to say it wont bow or may misread down the road only time can tell that. I'm using it as a gauge and I will trust it no more than any other gauge in the tractor.

The best gauge I've heard so far is (if it feels unsafe it probably is) good words to live by.
Good luck

PaulB, No, I just put these meters on, and found this out. I have been cutting that hill since 1956. Back then I used to cut it with a gravley walk behind, and kept falling off of the sulkey, so I got a wheel horse with a 4' mower. Then in 1973 I went to a power king with a 5' mower with a blower to pick up leaves and grass. Then for a year I had a 7100. Now I have a B2400. Never thought much about tilting over, because everything had a heavy mid mount mower that lowers the center of gravity. Since everyone was talking about tilt, I got a little concerned because I have a decent sized blower with a 8 HP engine on the side of the tractor,to pick up grass. I used to cut with the blower on the low side of the tractor, now I mostly cut with it on the upper side. Has to be a little safer. Another thing, when I'm cutting across that hill, there is no way I can turn up hill without using the brakes to turn. Just thought the meters would be nice to have, don't really need them since I've been cutting there for 44 years. Besides how many times do you have to pay shipping for something you don't really need.

I have checked my 2 7489c tiltmeters against the carpenters protractor level and they are as close as the eye can read the scales up to a 25 degree slope. I think you should call Rick at R&B about the apparant misreadings. He will undoubtedly make it good for you.

Hi Bud,
I am very sorry to hear you are having problems with your
#25 indicator. It is the first one I did not personally
test for accuracy. Up until recently, I designed tested
all models. I designed the #25 but left the testing up to
the company I pay to make my molds. They are usually very
reputable. They even make molds for G.M. and chrysler. I
take full responsibility for the problems. I will make it
right. How about this. I will exchange your indicators ( or
anyone elses )for a #7489 AND refund your postage to send
the #25 back, AND refund 50 percent of your original
purchase price for your inconvenience. Hey guys, I have a
warranty on my products, and if for ANY reason you are not
happy, send it back. Dont care what your reason is. Don't
like the way it mounts??? Send it back. Color clashes with
your favorite Hawaiian shirt ??? Send it back. I can vouche
for the #7489 and #23. I personally tested them. Guess i
will start doing so again. Kind of "Want it done right, do
it yourself." and I will. While I'm at it, if someone
happens to accidentally break the glass tube, or bends the
mounting brackets, etc. send it back and I will repair
it for nothing. I would ask that you pay the postage on that
one though. I will also give a full refund to anyone that
sends back a #25 and does not want a #7489. Note; the 7489
has been also tested and accuracy confirmed by several
O.E.Ms. I recently bought a microwave for my shop and it
lasted 2 months. Warrany says I must send it back and pay
postage both ways. I was not pleased. Postage cost almost
as much as microwave. If I was not happy, why would I do
that to MY customers ????? I won't. Is my offer fair?????
Come on guys, I can take it. Let me know what you think.
Good or bad, post it here. I have nothing to hide. I don't
mind everyone seeing your comments. GOOD OR BAD. I cannot
make improvements without you, the customers thoughts.
Will i go broke doing this? Perhaps. Will I sell a product
and not stand behind it ????? NEVER. What legacy will I
leave when I die and go to that big tractor land in the
sky (I hope.) "well at least the little fat boy stood
behind his products.). Sincerely, Rick (not randy) at R&B.

Like I said a straight shooter who knows customer service!
It's a shame there aren't more companies out there that will go the extra mile to make a customer happy---I'm impressed and that takes alot to do that. I deal with customers everyday and it's a very difficult thing to keep them satisified. But if there is a problem of some sort of problem all you can do is step up to the plate and try to keep um happy!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

By the way Rick I'm totally pleased with my meter-- thanks ---and keep up the good work. It's a never ending battle to keep the customers happy but with an attitude like that (customer comes first) you will do well.

Rick,

As you know, I've got 4 of your Tiltmeters. I checked them all with an electronic level, and they're all perfect.

By the way, I'll use this method to tell you the result of the beeper on my canopy (sorry it took me so long to get to it): It works great! No falsing at all, even though there's quite a bit of vibration up there. Thanks for all your hard work! (Call me if you need any particulars - you know how to get hold of me.)

And I'll ditto what the others have said about your customer service. I've never dealt with anyone better and very few as good. Frankly, I don't think it would be possible for anyone trying to make a living to provide better service than you do. Maybe, if you were rich and considered the world your personal charity case, you could just give the stuff away, but how realistic is that?

It's testimony to your product that there are so many satisfied customers on this board. As far as I know, JackinIL turned me on to your product first, and I raved about it on the previous incarnation of this board (he may have posted some messages about it as well - I don't remember), and the rest, as they say, is history. Thanks again for a great product and top-notch service.

Rick, I didn't respond to Bud right away because I figured it was a pretty sure bet that you would see his message and take care of it. We just do our best and I don't know anyone or any company that doesn't make a mistake once in awhile. Even I have had one of my repair jobs come back for warranty occasionally/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif, but when they do, they're top priority, and I don't think we'll lose many customers that way.

Rick - RICK!!! sorry about calling you Randy, I was so flabergasted by Bud's poor experience in contrast to the otherwise universally good experiences with your company that I goofed. Sorry.
PaulB, but just for today you can call me PhilB

Mark,Bird,Jack,Gordon,Bud,Paul,Glen,Muhammad,Bob,
And all you GREAT GUYS out there. I was totally devestated
this morning when I read there might be a problem with the
#25 indicator. Sometimes things pile in on you and you
just want to give up. Even if the mold company stands
behind their mistake, I loose over $3000.00 in glass tubes
I just had made. However after seeing all your comments,
I felt alot better. I truly appreciate your support, and I
will not let you down. P.S. I also appreciate when someone
lets me know when there are comments on the boards. I do
not have time to check everyday. Hey Mark, I'll call you
later to discuss details of the beeper model. Again, THANKS
GUYS !!!!!!!!!! Rick.

Two things.

1. Have we concluded that there IS a problem with the #25? Is that the one that was made in a smaller size as a result of discussions here?

2. Could those of you who have installed them tell us where you put them, other than in a canopy, which I do not expect ever to have. Many paddlers put marine compasses on the decks of their seakayaks in front of the cockpit. Because kayaks have different shaped decks (peaked, rounded, different slopes), the standard practice is to create a base for the compass out of minicell foam. You shape foam to the shape of the compass and carve the underside to the shape of the deck.
