Ouch... that's a sore point. Not rust free... actually worse than I expected, and has gotten worse in the 2 years I've had it sitting here. The West Virginia salted roads did a number on it, but it is better than others I have... the rails are decent, I may reproduce/fab new cross members, the rear one for sure. Looks great from the bed forward, clear line at the front edge of the bed... what was under the bed is much worse.
if you had bought a used mini school bus, you would have been done a long time ago!. you don't have the time for this modification you are doing..Ouch... that's a sore point.
