F17d First Impression

Hmmm. I inquired about an FX17D a while back and it seemed to be a rare model. I hope more information has appeared since then.

I read that post when doing some of my initial research. To my understanding the FX models are more rare that the F models. I think the FX models had a shuttle drive option were as the F models were all gear drive only.

Only time will tell if my purchase was a good deal. When and if I need replacement parts I at least know were to start with both Fredricks & Hoye being out there. One thing I have heard is that since the F series tractors are newer versions than the older YM models most folks here seem to love there is a gap in parts being imported but they are catching up since more are being imported these days.

I am just glad the ones of us with YM models have access to parts like we do. I hope my 2 tractors are still running when my son wants them

Enjoy your tractor. I have an F14d, similar I think but smaller. I have done a few maintenance jobs, most recent being new front axle swivel seals. Please post about any work you do on it :thumbsup:

The FX17D is 4 wheel drive instead of just rear wheel drive.

The "D" is what indicates 4wd not the FX. Not sure about the differences between and FX and an F model.

F is geared transmission, FX is power shift.

It would be nice to find a ROPS for your F-Series Yanmar. I had posted either on this forum or the other tractor forum about the 70% rebate price for ROPS from the National ROPS Program. To qualify, one simple thing needed to be met, an older tractor.

Fredricks is the main source to get a ROPS for tractors. I love their folding ROPS setup. It's beefier than the John Deere CUT tractors Yanmar supplied during the YM series era. My YM2610 ROPS is far better than a John Deere 850/950 era ROPS. I have mounted a small tool carry-all, lights and hopefully soon a canopy top. I need a drink holder too. The ROPS is nearly the ideal place for all of this.

Fredricks uses Custom Products manufacturing as the OE fabricator for their ROPS. It says so right on the ROPS. I got images of them too someplace on the computer ...

Nice machine BTW. TractorData.com Yanmar F17D tractor information It's ratings are nearly like my YM2610.

Truly the middle of the pack. Not too small and not too large. Easy to work on.

I have the JD 850/950 ROPS diagram, but that's just bulky. See image.

I've added the Fredricks ROPS master PDF here. It also has the ROPS drawings. Look at what type may fit your F17D. Just take some measuremnts and compare.

Here's their label for YM2000. I bought this via a Hoye Ebay auction then saw the manual was printed by Fredricks. This was one of their first ROPS sales. At the time nobody knew if the YM2000 ROPS would fit YM240. It is a perfect fit on YM240 (US version of YM2000).
