I'm thinking of putting up a 30x60 (possibly 40 x 60) fabric quonset hut type building for storing some equipment and round bales. I'd like to stack one end full of round bales and leave the other end open so I can pull in equipment.

I'm not sure what would be the best and most cost effective means of anchoring the structure. I've seen a lot of them on posts and on concrete median dividers. Apparently you can anchor some of them right to the ground as well. The site is a high point, so it is well drained and the soil is pretty much all shale. Drilling post holes will be possible with some rented equipment, but drilling isn't always the easiest. I really have no idea what it will cost to get concrete medians, and then I'll have the problem of moving them. I'd probably need to use 2 of our machines at one time to move one of those. I think they are over 4000 lbs.

I'm also interested in any experiences that could be shared about different manufactures, vinyl thickness, etc..

Our neighbors had one up for about two years storing graders, trucks etc for a building project nearby, stood up to it with constant traffic movement.
Local fire aathorities tell us there are very few fires with hay stored in open buildings, airflow keeps them cooler and less chance of spontaneous combustion.

If the soil can handle these it would be an option to consider.

I知 worried the fabric building won稚 last like they advertise. I hope it works out.

I've thought the same thing. There are a good many around here. I haven't seen any in a torn up mess yet. We have several other buildings, so I'm not looking for anything nice or complicated. Just something to get in stuff that would otherwise have to sit outside.

We have a few of those type storage systems around here and some have been up for a lot of years and due fine through blizzards and summer storms, I have a 12x20 and it’s still going strong but one of the sides is wearing through the fabric on corners but that’s the side that gets hit with the harder winds and weather.

A 50x100 for that price is super cheap from my research. I'm looking at close to 10,000 for a 40x60

Mines been up for 5 years and I was only going to use it for 1-2 years but it’s been holding up so well I have left it up, the main thing is to have it anchored down good and the frame bolted tight, think a new main cover is only 99.00 dollars I payed something like 179.00 for it new on sale.

I was looking at a 30x45 and that was around 9000.00 for a quality one plus it depends on the design.

Must have been a cheap one. I have 2. Both Clearspan truss arch (Quonset) buildings, one is 48 wide x 16 at the peak x 80 feet with a 14 foot metal roll up door at one end, other end is solid and another same dimensions but 100 feet long. Both have been up over 15 years (Clearspan warrants their fabric for 15 years) and nether show any wear and living in Michigan, we get heavy snow and pounding rain. I keep rounds in one and equipment tractors and implements in the other plus our RV. I have mins anchored with Clearspan supplied screw anchored every 8 feet and a 1 x 10 x length .40 retention base plate the trusses sit on.

Best cost per square foot storage I ever made and no property taxes because it's considered a portable building.

Clearspan is a division of FarmTek FarmTek - Hydroponic Fodder Systems, Farming & Growing Supplies, Hoop Barns, Poultry & Livestock Equipment, High Tunnels, Greenhouses & More

We put up a small Shelter Logic in January 2017 and it worked fine for a couple of years and I started to notice it was showing some wear in places where it rested on the frame. A few months ago we had a hail storm w/ peach pit sized hail or smaller and it put thirty holes in the roof on one side of the roof. I put gaffer tape patches on each hole and sprayed with waterproofing and so far it hasn稚 leaked, but suspect it will need to be replaced or removed at some point. The powder coated tubular frame is nice and I could repurpose it into a small coop or something. It was $125 bucks, so not losing any sleep over it.

The description says: Grey cover is durable and made from an advanced triple-layer rip stop that is waterproof and UV-treated to resist fading.

I had a small one (12’x24’) that cost about $1000, and it came with anchors like that. The anchors were fine, but the vinyl lasted about 8 years. I wouldn’t invest much in a foundation.

There was also quite a bit of water condensation inside. I sometimes thought my tractor would have done as well outside.

I could be wrong, but I think the type of building that I'd be looking for is more like what 5030 is describing. I could be wrong, but I'm willing to bet that the smaller buildings are made of thinner, cheaper vinyl. How many mils is the vinyl on your buildings 5030?

How does on install these screw anchors? If I'm understanding this right, you set the plates on the ground and put the screw anchor through the plate to hold it down? Would I be likely to get those screw anchors through the shale on my site?
