We are going to be having a party for some friends with a hayride and bonfire and stuff. Just wondering if you guys had any good ideas for other games or things to do at a fall party like that. We have already used the tractor to move some large rocks into a circle for our fire area. And I cut a large area with the brush hog so we could throw a football, or pumpkins, or have a three legged race. Also used the brush hog to cut an area for parking.

Pretty much just looking for some suggestions for games both for the little ones and for the adults.

Also, suggestions for hayrides, what to do and not to do. We are going to do a couple dry runs, don't plan on being on the road much. The trailer has sides on it and I am planning on going pretty slow with kids in the mix, but this will be our first hayride with the tractor.

Thanks guys!

Mornin Tororider,
Sounds like a fun time ! I would suggest an adult in the wagon durring the hayrides that can get your attention easily if something should go wrong ! Also I would suggest flashers on the tractor and on the back of trailer ! I would only go on back roads that are traveled very infrequently, like out in the middle of no where ! The trailer sides are a very good idea ! Have a great time ! :)

For the hayride outline the edge of the trailer with hay bales to keep the little ones from accidently falling off. I always enjoyed egg toss at picnics. If you have someone with artistic talents, kids love face painting.

ToroRider,

I just made a game that they are using at tailgate parties. It's called cornhole or bean toss. It is a board that is 24" w x 48" long with a 6" hole towards the top. You toss 6" x 6" bags and the object is to hit the hole or at least stay on the board. You can buy the game at Wal Mart or order it online. OR they are very easy to build yourself. If you want more information on them contact me and I'll give you more. My entire family got hooked on the game after playing it at a family reunion this summer.

MarkV,
Did you build a pit, or just knock two bars into the ground and let them fly? I was thinking about building a course, but wanted to have the least amount of labor for the most results.

Hagman,
I am definitely interested in building a bean toss. My friend has one, but I would like one to keep out at the farm for parties like this. Plus it is something the little ones could play while the adults throw the iron around. If you have the plans for an easy build I would be much appreciative.

Thanks

Keep the ideas coming.

Oh yeah,
There aren't going to be a ton of kids at the party so I am going to make sure there is at least one adult per kid on the hayride to keep things as safe as possible. I have heard that if I get a dummy femail trailer connection and then alligator clip onto the two hot wires and take that to the battery I can get lights for the trailer, is that correct? I will definitely have a big orange reflector.

Maybe a scavenger hunt, or boil some eggs and hide those, no need waiting till Easter. Water balloons, pinata, tire swing. Sounds like fun. Be safe.

Kids of all ages just love...............................FIREWORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A hit at any party, Just be careful.

Don't think I am going to be able to convince the Mrs. about the fireworks, at least not this go around, but I like the idea.

I think it may be a bit cold for water baloons up here in Michigan, but I think I might do a combination between a scavenger hunt and easter egg hunt. I think I may put some loose hay in the middle of the trailer before we start the rides and hid a bunch of toys for the little kids. Just head over to the dollar store and grab some goodies for the kids.

Keep them coming!

Here is a game that is pretty simple to learn but very addicting once you have played it.:D
KUBB-The Viking Game
It does however require a game set to play.

/ Fall Party Games #13
Something that's been fun for our family has been a set of Jumbo Jinga blocks made with 2x4s. Cut them to length so they are as long as three 2x4s are wide (about 10.5") then sand the cut edges smooth. They work best if you don't finish them; this allows them to dry nicely if the ever get wet. It's fun for all ages and even more fun for the adults as the night wears on. They store nicely in a plastic milk crate or burlap sack. All you need is a fairly smooth surface and away you go. A large set can be made cheaply and quickly once you set the fence on your saw. ENJOY THE FUN!!! Use high-quality lumber for better results.

That sounds like a lot of fun. We have a ton of 2x4s from some walls we ripped out in our pole barn when we bought it, but I don't think many of them are straight enough to work for Jinga. I may try that, I have a couple of weeks before the party, so I may get out the saw and make a set. Any idea how many total pieces make up a set, or at least a good number???

Where痴 the spike The traditional favorite beach vollyball sport, officiated with a few rules to keep the ball in play. To benefit the normal group we play no spiking or blocking and use special team play rules.

Fill er Up: In this wacky relay, players don swim fins and hard hat with an attached water-filled tumbler. Individual players must take turns as they waddle to the team receiver and dump the water into the tumbler, which is attached to a pair of goggles on the receiver's head. The receiver must be lying down.

Whale of a Time: Two groups of five players from each team take turns maneuvering a Whale suspended over their heads, while balancing a limbo pole between their knees. Picture a group of Whales racing through a sea of cones!

Bucket R Us: Teams line up and try to progressively pass buckets full of water, while holding them high over their heads, down the line to the last person who dumps the water into a bottle. The last person then races back to re-fill the bucket and start the brigade again. Oh yes, our buckets have holes!

Team Cheer: Creativity, enthusiasm and delivery are the criteria for judging this event- Teams creatively write, choreograph and perform a group cheer, rap, song which will complete the games.

Ring of Saturn: An entire team joins hands in a circle, facing out, with one team member inside the circle. The team then must move across the competition space faster than the other teams. Then, return!

Clothing Contortion: String tied to a spoon, long string! The team lines up one next to the other, and has to pass the string-tied spoon under their shorts and shirt and handed off to the next person, until the whole team is "Strung" together. Then they have to "unstring" themselves. First team to complete this maneuver WINS!

Up and Over: The team members line up one behind another. They pass a large plastic ball alternately over their head, then under their legs, from team member to team member. The ball must pass both up and down the line, more times than two if time is available.

Big Ball Relay: Line up, relay fashion. One team member starts out with a big ball clutched between his knees. He must waddle down the relay lane to his teammate, who puts the big ball between his legs and continues until the relay is done!

Rag Time Relay: The first two members of the team dress in outrageously over-sized clothes, run together down the lane, step inside a hula hoop on the ground, exchange clothing without stepping out of the hoop. After getting redressed, in their partner's clothes, they run back and give the clothes to the next team members.

TEAM BANNER DESIGN
We start with a blank white banner, and add art supplies: paint, brushes, felt, scissors, glue, stencils, ribbon, mylar, glitter, and more. We then give the participating teams a time limit and a subject to base their banner on, and off they go to create the most attractive, creative, clever, and fun banner imaginable based on the subject matter you select. For instance, a new company product, a company slogan, a team name, or the fun they're having in Palm Springs, are all possible subjects!

STEVIE WONDER VOLLEYBALL:
The team takes the volleyball field. The more players on the court the better. They each take a seat on chairs out on the court. They don a blindfold, and Stevie Wonder sunglasses, too, if you desire! The referee begins the game by tossing out the large beach ball. And then the game continues like normal volleyball with the team members doing their "sightless" best to get the beach ball over the net. The number of points required to win can be adjusted based on amount of time available to play.

GREASED WATERMELON:
The team members line up one next to another, equal numbers on the various teams. The greased watermelon starts at one end of the line, and must be passed from one team member to the next. When the end of the line is reached, the last person must roll the watermelon around a traffic cone, then pass the watermelon back down the line to the start. First team completed wins. Dropped watermelons are OK as long as no team member misses his turn to pass the melon. If the melon is broken open, the team is disqualified.

EARTH BALL:
This game is played with the large earth ball, and is similar to soccer, except that the team members must assume the "crab" position, on all fours with their back to the ground. They then maneuver the earth ball with bodies, feet, legs, head, hands, as best they can , staying in the "crab" position. They try and make a goal against the opposing team. Time limits are placed based on the amount of time available to play.

TENNIS TIME:

Tennis played with ping pong balls and badminton raquets, is funny and difficult. We can adjust the rules and game lengths to match your players age, and skill level, and amount of time available to play.

PICK AND CHOOSE:

Another fun tennis ball event, we set-up brightly colored open-ended tubes marked with different point totals. One team at a time participates in time trials. Half the team pitched the tennis balls trying to get them into the tubes for points. The other half of the team is in the field rebounding. Talk about tennis balls flying - this event is colorful and fast!

TRAVELIN' SALESPERSON RELAY:

Divide your team (equal numbers of participants required on each team) in half and line them up facing each other in their racing lane. To begin, the first runner opens his suitcase, puts on the "Travelin Salesperson" costume in side, then runs down the lane to his teammate. Then the first runner takes off the costume, puts it in the suitcase, then hands off the suitcase to the second runner who repeats the actions. First team to finish or best time wins.

WAITER RELAY

IZZY DIZZY RELAY:

To begin, the team members line up one after another at the start (equal numbers of participants required on each team). The first runner takes the plastic bat and runs down his lane to the end, where he must place his forehead on the bat handle and run around it (twirl) 10 times. Then he must take the bat back to the start and hand-off to his teammate.

CLOTHING CONTORTION

String tied to a spoon, long string! The team lines up one next to the other, and has to pass the string-tied spoon under their shorts and shirt and handed off to the next person, until the whole team is "Strung" together. Then they have to "unstring" themselves. First team to complete this maneuver WINS!

TENNIS BALL SCRABBLE
All team Captains are given a large crate full of tennis balls, which have letters painted on them (there are also tennis balls which are not marked for wild cards). Team Captains stand at one end of the playing field where they simultaneously bend over and throw tennis balls through their legs towards tream members. The waiting team mates then build as many words as possible (scrabble style) within a short time period. Each ball used in a legal word is worth one point and the team with the most points wins!

CENTIPEDE SHUFFLE
With your teammates put a lightweight pole between your knees and travel as a group around the cones to the finish line.

OUT OF SIGHT N' SOUND
Players are challenged to get in numerical order while blindfolded and not permitted to speak. Herein lies the communication challenge.

HUMAN SCRABBLE
Each player wears a letter of the alphabet and must lie down next to the teammates in order to spell out selected words for point value.

WET N' WILD
Players don flippers and hardhats with mounted tumblers. Tumblers are filled with water and players walk to opposite end of the lane and pour into receiver's pitcjer strategically placed over their face. The first full pitcher in this crazy event wins!

THREE-LEGGED RACE:
This event can be run as a relay or a straight race with team against team. You can put together two people that don't know each other, that specialize in different business areas, that are opposite physical types, etc. The legs are tied together with bandanas at the ankles. The two people must work together to run and win.

WHEELBARROW CROQUET:
Three teammates must work together in this relay event. One person is the wheelbarrow, with the other two holding his ankles. Together they navigate a croquet court, using a ping pong paddle and a ping pong. They must go through all the hoops in order, then hand-off the paddle and ping pong ball to their next set of three teammates.

OBSTACLE COURSE

WATER BALLOON SLING SHOT

GRAPEFRUIT NYLON RELAY:
A grapefruit suspended in nylons is tied around the team members. Each team member must swing his grapefruit against a grapefruit on the ground and move it a proscribed distance to his next teammate.

SCAVENGER HUNT:
Riddles, crazy clues and a time limit lead to hilarious fun!

WATER BUCKET RELAY
We line the teams up sitting on the grass, one behind the other, and each team member has a small paper cup. At the head of the line sits a large bucket of water. At the other end of the line, is a measured container. At the Referee's whistle, the team member begins filling his paper cup, then without turning and over his shoulder, he pours it into the person's cup behind him, and so on. This can be timed as to who has the most water after a particular amount of time has passed, or whichever team reaches the mark on the measured container first.

PHOTO SAFARI:
With a Polaroid camera in hand, and a set of riddles to solve with "visual" answers, the teams head off, with a time limit, to come up with "solutions" to the riddles using Polaroid photos. They then prepare a poster with their photos, for the Referees to judge for creativity and completeness.

EGG RELAY:
Divide your team (equal numbers of participants required on each team) in half and line them up facing each other in their racing lane. Give them all a tablespoon. The first runner holds a tablespoon with an egg on it. He must hop one legged down his lane then pass the egg to his teammate, not using their hands, only the spoons. If the egg drops, it can be picked up with the spoon only (no hands) and the race continues. If the egg breaks, the team is disqualified.

PICTIONARY
With flip charts and markers, our Referees challenge one drawer to get his team to guess the WORD in the time limit. After each drawing, we get a new Drawer to the flip chart for major participation from the team!

RIMBALL / FOOTBALL
Give the Teams a time limit, line them up, and start them off! They have to get the most points scored in Basketball/Rimball, and in our colorful painted Football Players arms to WIN.

CATERPILLAR CRAWL/SKI SLALOM
With two long boards underfoot, and rope handles leading up to the guests hands, a team has to successfully move together with their feet on the boards, AND move through a slalom course faster than any other team.

RAFT BUILDING
Using raw material that the Referees provide, the Teams have a time limit in which they have to construct their raft, sail it with one of their members afloat into the Pool, and capture the flag at the far side of the Pool faster than any other team.

MOON BALL
With a huge Beach Ball, we gather a team all together, and tell them they have to keep the Beach Ball aloft as long as they can (with hands only) without it hitting the ground, with a point for each hit. The tension builds as each team approaches the "world record"!

SPIRIT CHEERS:
Throughout the games over the three days, the referees at the various events can select a team as winner of the Spirit Cheer for enthusiasm and team support.

FRISBEE GOLF
Our colorful Frisbee Golf Containers can be placed all over and everywhere, then our Referee starts out a team and sees how low they can keep their score as they go through the "Golf Course".

TUG-O-WAR

FIELD HOCKEY
With goals set-up, teams compete against each other in the classic field hockey game to score and win. We can add silly rules to this by using a BIG BIG Ball, instead of a puck. Also, we can adjust the rules so that some of the team kicks and others use hockey sticks. OR, we can allow only children to score OR only women can score! Keeps things moving and keeps everyone involved!

ROPE JOUSTING
We place two competitors on low boxes. We give each of them a rope end to hold. Then, with the whistle, they have to try and pull the other person off their box or the rope out of their hands to win!

TRIVIAL PURSUIT
Frustrating, exciting, fast-paced, mind-bending... The infamous game is adapted to our sport day, with a special questionnaire that the team works on together. The number right is added to your score so it is a chance to get big numbers fast...So go for it!!

QUICK DRAW GAME
Two teams face off in the challenge of the old west!!
Each team member can give this a try. One team member at a time.

Family HISTORICAL TRIVIA
Frustrating, exciting, fast-paced, mind-bending. The infamous game of Trivia is adapted to our Color Wars with a special questionnaire that the team works on together. This Trivia must be prepared ahead of time by someone with inside info so it can be extra tough and extra fun!

BOCCE BALL
From Italy comes this skillful game of lawn bowling. We will set up three different courts for maximum participation

BEACH BLANKET VOLLEYBALL
Unlike the killer instinct of real volleyball, we foster teamwork with Beach Blanket Volleyball. As many as 16 people participate per side, and play is with a large 45" Beach Ball. Each four team members grasp the four corners of a large blanket, and the blanket is the only thing that can catch and too the Beach Ball, with the usual three hits per side. Everyone must move together and focus on cooridination inorder to come close to winning.

PAINTBALL
Sophisticated version of Capture the Flag, played with complete safety gear, including long sleeves and long pants. Our Referees will keep the action moving - because this game is Speed Ball.

SLING SHOT WATER BALLOON
This is not a POWER SPORT, but a Game of skill. The object here is to launch a water balloon with our special three-person sling-shot in the direction of your team mates, who will be down field from you and are attemping to catch your "Rocket" in any of the "Catchers".

FRISBEE TOSS AND TUCK
One frisbee catcher faces his teammates, one at a time, as they whip 5 frisbees at him, then the next teammate throws five, etc., etc.The catcher has to catch and hold as many as possible without dropping in a one minute time frame. The count, then switch catchers and try to beat your best.

BIG BALL RELAY
Line up, relay fashion. One team member starts out with a big ball clutched between his knees. He must waddle down the relay lane to his teammate, who puts the big ball between his legs and continues until the relay is done!

CEO Putt
Our specially designed putting surfaces look like a mini green, with points attached to different places on the fairway, green and traps. Take your best CEO Putt and see how low you can keep your score.

HIPPITY HOP
Bounce on that hippity hop down the relay lane, and beat the other teams!

HI STEPPER
Lift your legs high above the web of strings, and make your way faster than your competitor. You have to lift those feet high!

BROOMBALL RELAY
This event involves sweeping the tennis ball through a series of wickets. As the first player reaches the finish line, his teammate comes back doing the same thing.

RAG TIME RELAY
The first two members of the team dress in outrageously over-sized clothes, run together down the lane, step inside a hula hoop on the ground, exchange clothing without stepping out of the hoop. After getting redressed, in their partner's clothes, they run back and give the clothes to the next team members.

HULA HOOP CHAIN
Team members stand in a line. Each person puts one hand between their legs. The person behind grabs that hand all the way down the line to form a chain. Then the first person in line picks up a hula hoop with his free hand and gets it started down the line. He must put both feet and his body through. No hands. The hoop must get to the end of the line and back to win.

CANTALOUPE RACE
The first two players sandwich a cantaloupe between them and race twenty yards, they then tag the next team members, who also sandwich the cantaloupe and son on til one team finished first.

Kendall,
Holy smokes, have parties much? Those sound great, I will have to keep them in mind for our summer party next year, which with those games I will already start planning. Unfortunately in MI at the end of October, anything with water balloons might turn into ice bombs, hehe. But some of those will definitely work. Thanks for the help.

Toro,
Three feet is a good height so you'd need 24 layers to reach that level. Using 8' boards you get 9 pieces or three layers out of one board. To make a stack three feet tall you'd need to buy 8 8'-2x4s. Hope your family enjoys playing. It makes a fun and durable game for about $20.

Its alltogether possible about the snow, not normally enough for a snowball fight, but definitely too cold for water balloons.

Got the horseshoe pits dug today. Used the front end loader and a bit of manual labor with a pick axe to loosen up our cement...errrr clay/dirt. I need to get some sand to fill them in and actually place the stakes, but the hard part is done.

If I have time, I will build some backstops for each pit.

I will try to post some pictures later this weekend.
