Well, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna restore it this winter. For the past few days I've been gettin all the grease and grime off of the engine which is a PITA. I'd never thought it would be that hard to get off. Last month I put a new clutch plate in and a throw out bearing. Then I found out that that wasn't the problem so had to put a new gear in the tranny.

Welcome to TBN.

That machine looks to be in pretty good shape. I look forward to seeing your progress. I really enjoy watching the restoration process in action.

Thanks. I LOVE it. It runs great and does anything you throw at it. Well, at least for all I do with it. I use it for my boat storage, but some boats have been sittin for 20 years and burried in the ground pretty deep. All ya gotta do is put it in 1st and put it to full throttle and it comes out. I'll be sure to post pics of it during the restoration. I think it looks 10x better just by cleanin it up.

Well, the clutch wasn't too too bad. Just had to take the starter out, support the front and rear for when you split it and the whole clutch was right there. Now the gear, that's a different story. You have to unbolt the seat, and everything around it, take the whole rear off and support it somehow. Then you have to take the brakes off. It's alot of messin around to do it. When I got the gear, the guy said that it was common for those tractors to do that. But I guess I have to remember, that's a whole 20HP to the ground. LOL. Tomorrow, I'll get some pics of the gear that broke.

All I plan to do with it after I restore it is keep usin what I use it for now. Movin boats/trailers/campers/and some cars. But then I want to take it to tractor pulls and put it as a display and when they have the tractor parades I want to run it in one. They had one a few weeks ago and they went 90 miles. I think it was a round trip but not sure.

Oh, I almost forgot about the gear change. I also had to get a new axle cause of the gear that broke.

Mornin Club Car Man,
Welcome to TBN !!! Nice lookin Farmall tractor you have there :) Looks like you dont even need new tires :)

Im finishing up my second Farmall, a 49 Super A. Its a lot of fun and real rewarding when they are done. The farmer down the road from me has a 49 Farmall C that Im scoping out, although his son may have different ideas about the tractor

Good luck and keep us updated !

That's sure a nice tractor. One day I'd like to have a project like that, it doesn't realy matter who made it, just as long as it's old!!! They just have a ton of character to them.

I think the most fun would be to tow a hay wagon around with it. Put a bunch of kids in the back and just wonder around on some trails.

Thanks JDGREEN.

Eddie, we do that every year. We have alot of friends come over and every Halloween about 10 miles down the road theres a hay ride. So I hook the tractor up to the wagon and we all ride down to the other hay ride. It's tons of fun.

Well, someone on another forum told me to use oven cleaner for a degreaser. And it worked GREAT. It took a lot of the heavy stuff off (still have to scrape it off and do it again) If any of you want to do that here's what oyu do. Get oven cleaner and spray it on and let it sit on the tractor for about 20 mins. Then spray it off with a pressure washer or regular hose. Takes a little longer with a regular hose but it works. Here's some pics of it.

Looks like you did a great job on it. When it comes to the old iron, I'm really a JD guy, but I like them all. The 230 is a good size for parades and tractor shows too, because it's not too heavy for towing with a half-ton. With 2 row cultivators and that easy steering, they're great for a big garden too.
