FARMERS*MILK

How about a tall glass of fresh milk the day after the cow had been grazing on bitterweeds

Now why would anyone want to drink a fresh glass of milk after the cow has been in that kind of feed. Thought that went straight over to the hog feeder:)

We have almost all Nubian goats in our goat dairy (except for 4 alpines). Their milk does have very high butterfat, and tastes much better than cows' milk. But it is actually healthier than cows milk also, it's more digestable because the fat globules are actually smaller, and it is naturally homogenized. It is also higher in several amino acids and vitamins.

Don't you know all that butter fat will kill you?

Yeah, I try to stay away from the butter fat. For instance, I had two pop-tarts and a coke for breakfast yesterday and I feel fine. :D

Mornin Rich,
Good to hear you back on TBN, you must have been busy on the farm this past summer, I havent seen any posts by you !

My grandpop raised a few jerseys and they had a higher butterfat content and he used to pour the cream over his blueberries for breakfeast along with his bacon and eggs and he made it into his nineties :) Of course he also worked from sunup to sundown thats what probablly killed him !

Howdy, Scotty!!

I've been pretty busy with the goat dairy. We're shipping milk, and expanding as fast as we can. It keeps me pretty busy!! We're also expanding our sheep operation and our egg business. That's why I'm only online this late, beleive it or not, I just got inside from finishing my day's farmwork.

I tried some goat's milk from a friend (La Mancha goats) and it was very good. I guess it isn't cost effective for this country to go to goats milk (even though it is better for you). I saw a quart of goat's milk at the market for $4. I'm going to try to see if I can start buying a gallon a week from my friend but I don't think they can spare that much since they are in the cheese making business and business is booming.

[ I guess it isn't cost effective for this country to go to goats milk ]

The reason that goats' milk isn't cost effective in this country, is because there aren't that many goat dairies. It's the law of supply and demand. Worldwide, more people drink goats' milk than cows' milk. In fact, worldwide, more people also drink sheep's milk than cows' milk. Worldwide milk consumption is: #1 goat's milk
#2 sheep's milk
#3 cow's milk
#4 water buffalo milk

Don't be surprised, you've probably consumed each of them if you like good cheese. Feta cheese is made with goat's milk. Romano cheese is made with sheep's milk. And REAL mozarella cheese is made with water buffalo milk.

I agree with Russ. My family also grew up on milk from the farm. Best milk we ever had and the money stayed with the farmer. Sorry I don't have a nearby farm around me.
