Re: Fast Food
I don't know about you fellows but unless it's "Slow Food" I can't catch it!
Re: Fast Food
Tonight I grilled some thick boneless pork chops with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. I also put two slices of grilled pineapple on the rack above them and let them drip down on the chops. I basted the top of the pineapple with the sauce as well. While the chops were cooking I made some white rice and steamed some green beans that I picked from the garden today. Everything took about 10 minutes to cook. That was fast enough food for me. Mmmm!!!![]()
You guys just don't know what good food is, or maybe you do. I grew up in an orphanage, and we ate what we could get, but it was mostly , beans, taters, cornbread , and maters, and sometimes, some kind of meat. I did learn something there , and that we always ate every thing on out plates. If you ain't gonna eat it, don't get it. To this day, I frown on people that serve a full plate, eat half of it and throw the other half away, and kids that eat dessert before the regular meal.
Oh, how I love grilled pork chops. I usually like mine basted in teriyaki sauce and with slices of fresh pineapple. Delicious!
Good Mornin Jim,
Its not even lunch time yet, I really shouldnt be reading these posts !![]()
I started this thread with a quick lunch of sliced vegetables and it has gone all the way from deer and elk hunting to marinating and cooking pork chops.
One of my all time favorites, is still a good tomato sandwich. Thick sliced maters on wheat bread, with a dash of mayo and a dash of salt. Especially when the maters are right out of the garden. Remember my Grandma making them when I was a kid. Still a favoriteShe even made her own mayo.
I've been eating a large Florida avacodo for lunch on these hot days... local supermarket has on sale two for three dollars. Split and add a tablespoon of blue cheese dressing on each half... Good eating.

Good Afternoon Robert,
I have to agree with you on that one !
We never made our own mayo, but a fresh tomato out of the garden, and a few swabs of Real Hellmans, a sprinkle of salt, and there is nothin better !
I often get upset when Kathleen brings that Hellmans Light junk ..... homebut of course she is trying to look after my health Im sure !

Instead of mayo, we use Miracle Whip, and I like to add a dash of pepper to my sandwich.
For lunch yesterday, I had a BOLT: Bread (toasted), Onion sliced thin, Lettuce (one thin leaf), and Tomato (three thin slices). Like Bird, I added salt, pepper and a little Miracle Whip. Some leftover stir-fried squash rounded out my lunch. No pictures; it didn't last that long.
I counted 18 baseball-sized tomatoes ripening on the window sill and a cookie sheet I sat on the floor in front of a low window. They are all orange going to red. I have all the tomatoes I can eat and plenty to give away right now.
JC: That veggie dish is a beautiful dish. Your picture sure made me want to dig in. As with your breads, you have a talent for dressing up a dish and making it look scrumptous. I just toss it on a plate and dig in, but your plates are a work of art. Nice!
I have to ask one thing about the fresh leaf basil. Do you eat that with your veggies or does it just add flavor and aroma? My fresh leaf and globe basil smells so strongly that I had not considered eating it green as whole leaves. I haven't tried it, so it might be good. Kathy dried herbs and put them into bottles. A picture is attached. I dried some cilantro and put it in a jar, but it will not be nearly as good as the fresh I use to make pico de gallo.
I don't think I ever had lox with a bagel. I'm not against trying it, but I've never really had the opportunity even though I've heard of it all my life. It's one of those things I'd never do for myself, but I'd sure love to try some.
Your desert looks sinful, but I'd have to find some fruit other than strawberries if my wife ate it. She is so allergic to strawberries that one bite or a spoonful of juice will send her to the emergency room.We have to be very careful. We buy frozen mango cubes and she eats that while I eat strawberries.
