Your site is the fastest I've ever used. I gather you're using Red Hat Linux? In any event, I've never seen a site that responds as quickly as yours! Kudos!! How do you do it??

Yep, RedHat Linux 6.1... the server isn't a total monster (750mhz, 256mb ram, 9gb SCSI), but it's more than adequate since we have an entire server and it's not shared ... We have such a huge db load, so we went with the SCSI drive, which contributes to the speed. Also, everything is done in PERL with a MySQL backend ... which is about the fastest combo we can find ... PHP would probably be very similar in speed, but what wears PHP down usually is how many extra calls people make (referring to some PHP forums out there /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif).

And you're right ... I can't think of a quicker site online. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Re: Not so Fast!

Muhammad,

Sorry to be an apparent stick in the mud, but I find the new site to be extremely slow (especially when compared to the former set-up). I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I am running Netscape 4.76 on a PowerMac G3 and using a Global Villiage V90 56K modem. I can obviously see that you have put a lot of effort into the new "look" (which I am still trying to get better acquainted with), but I am sure not seeing any site speed increases.

Re: Not so Fast!

I have Opera 6, Netscape 4.7 and IE 6 installed and the new TBN is faster than the old TBN under IE 6. It's slower under Netscape and Opera.

Also, Opera does not format the columns correctly. See attached.

Re: Not so Fast!

That's interesting Mike. I am pretty fed-up with Netscape in any regard. Although I have used it as my browser of choice for many years, I have found the more recent versions to be increasingly buggy and not able to access certain Internet attributes (particularly version 6.0, which was an unmitigated disaster). I am going to see how version 6.2 does in the next couple of days, but my switch to IE seems all the more likely at this juncture (TBN's "speed" or otherwise).

Have to agree about the blazing speed. I've always been lucky since I have a cable modem, but the pages snap back now, using IE 5.5, W98SE.

Love the automatic jump to new posts.
