Fecon FTX 148-L

Definately not Rayco! I am pretty sure that the machine is made in Canada. I did run the prototype for about 10 minutes and it was impressive. I know they have made several changes from the one I ran. I hope to have one ASAP. The rocks are killing me out here. I had to have a kidney transplant at lunch today! Hope the suspended track will help that.

Why I want a suspended track mulcher. Rubber tracks need not apply. It is brutal, this is from a few days ago believe it or not it is worse now. The rocks are no bigger but I am on a hill now!

The logo sure does say that but my dealer said different. Who knows...heck who cares if it is a good mulcher I will run it anyway.

What does that do to the teeth ? I would think that the rocks are tearing it up bad $$.

Supertrak uses the same Cat engine (4.4) in their modified 287 according to the website. The Fecon "looks" like a lot more machine than a 287B. But Chevrolet put 454's in Corvettes as well as dump trucks so I guess it's how you "use" it huh? Just an observation.

I have hit a few rocks but no broken teeth yet. The job does not require me to grind everything all of the way down. The guy understands that you can not grind very well in that stuff. Folks out here are pretty smart about our business. The major issue is that the trees are laying on the ground with the limbs ground off where they are not a wildfire issue.

Suspended tracks look like they will help but you are still going to take some punishment on rocks like those. Maybe big tires would be the way to go...

Geoboy makes a nice rubber tired tractor for mulchers. I think a excavator might help for your up higher and you can manuver(sp) around the rocks better. Either way it looks like a tough job. If that tractor is made in Canada I will find out. I know a few people who work up there and have seen it ALL. But it does look extremely purpose built.

In all honesty the rocks are not the problem and the hills are not the problem. Put the rocks on the hills and then I have a problem. I really do wish I had an excavator for this segment of the job. I am moving towards another very steep section. I will jump out and take a few more pictures this afternoon.

cbturf,

Would you be able to give us a location for where this big job that you're currently on is located? I was thinking about trying to use Google maps to check it out in 3-D and see what the steepness of the hills looks like.

Also: You've mentioned that the new Fecon 148L machine has suspended tracks... do you know that from when you operated the prototype I assume?
And how well do think the rubber & metal track on the new 148L would handle your current rocky conditions? The way the Fecon salesman described the track on the telephone yesterday made me think of the track used on Gyrotrack machines, which is like a conveyor belt with metal grousers bolted to it.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences & pictures out West there on that job.

just a quick look, but the track system on the 148 looks a bit like the one on the Gyro-trac GT 13. But it would seem silly for gyro to help fecon out since they are a major competetor...

any one know what the asking price is going to be? I'm guessing 175K?

thanks -

Gyro didn't event the track system they are using. So if fecon is using the same then they found the originator and are dealing with them. I wonder if you were to take the tracks off and run wider tires if it would perform anywhere near the same. Would cut down on the cost of tracks. I've heard a replacement set of tracks for the GT-25 is astrimonical.

I was told the 148L would be in the range of $180K - $200K.

And that this summer there will be two more track options available for it for a total of three different tracks.

I do not have any idea where I am. The town that I am living in is Ruidoso, but I head into the mountians east of town on an un-named road for about 4 miles where I park the truck and then drive the crawler down a goat trail for 15 minutes to get to the job. When we looked at the job to give the owner the quote we had to walk up the hill. At 8000ft of elevation I lost my breath very quickly. I am expecting a check soon maybe I will get a gps. I am pretty cheap though.

Robbie is right the suspended cross link track has been around forever. I do not know about the price, Robbie also raises a great point that if it is to high should we wait until the steel track option is available. Steel tracks are very expensive also but the run for 4-5000 hours. I will probably be dead by then, heck I don't even buy green bananas anymore working out here. First picture is the view from the job. The second is my machine...look for the little red dot!

Gamma I am just acquainted with track systems. I have been around machinery my whole life and my major was mechanical engineering.

The entire chassis and undercarriage is made for Fecon by a Canadian company called Camoplast. I bet that most of the chassis and undercarriage was originally Bombadier before Camoplast bought them. I think they are a track manufacturer that makes the tracks for ASV.
