Federal protection for Rattlesnakes?

These laws were probably written by the lobbyists for snake oil salesmen to protect the snake oil sales

They must sell a lot. I've never seen a rusty or squeaky snake.

But, I wouldn't want to be a snake oiler!

I was trying to use humor about carrying a weapon and imminent danger. I simply carry the weapon out of caution.
I have only killed one snake and regretted it long after. My wife saw an 8 ft snake Saturday, but left it alone as it was moving past.
I know the snakes keep rodents down and even other things. But I hate the government intervention as they harm you more in many walks of farm life and realistic personal freedoms. We need laws and proper oversight but with a balance of State and individual freedoms.
Now pass the biscuits please.......

Phiferfarm, I have to take a class every year to be a landfill operator. You should hear the stories and costs associated with gopher tortous. On land fill has a 1200 acre specialty fenced site to take them to when they are found on site, be it a cut or a cell fill. They have to dig a hole in fron of the burrow, then place atub and check if on the hour. If its caught you call the vet and he checks it for a virus, If its positive you pay the vet and he kills it ans sends it to the state. If it tests negative it goes to a sanctuary. Either Camp SHelby to National gaurd base, And if its a special sub species it wont get along with the turtles there it has to go to a special home. One of the Landfill operators in the class was in the the Gaurd stationed at Camp Shelby. He said if one was encounterd on a live fire drill or maneuvers the y had to call it off and remove the turtles and then resume. We spend more money on the turtles than all the Veterans in the state. Im glad they dont live in north MS.

I hear ya Taylor. I'm about 40 miles or so from Camp Blanding- Florida's NG post. I was in and out of there for almost forty years at least once a year and until I moved up here, didn't understand why the folks had a problem with turtles. Now, I know,...BTW - I made several visits into Camp Shelby doing inspections. Met quite a few really nice folks there.

As far as respecting nature, I agree - I feed the deer, but don't shoot them, same with the wild turkey, heck, I even have refrained from "accidentally" running over the Gopher Turtle that cost me $$$ several times by digging holes. Now as far as poisonous snakes - Call me Rambo...

I have a couple of "pet" king snakes that like to hang around my barns and sheds. Been around for years now. They don't bother me none. If I see a poisonous snake in my yard he's target practice, however. If I see him anywhere else on my land I leave him be, unless I have to kill him. Those king snakes do a good job of keeping the bad guys outta sight though:)

I apologize if I offended anyone.

Himm- too many choices I think  Look at it this way creekbend, perhaps you can aspire to the title one of my former Army Colleagues gave me= EOO ( Equal Opportunity Offender). He's said I had the ability to hack off everybody at times. He's now a two star and still a good friend, so no harm - no foul

I only go after poisonous snakes. All others welcome.
I heard that the timber rattler is protected some way in some locations. We have roundups locally for diamond backs. Fellow went to hospital this spring, bit in upper body demonstrating how to free handle a snake...
