I'm kind of surprised by the reaction to a group of people who seem to enjoy and respect the outdoors so much. I am not very fond of snakes myself, but when I am mowing I always avoid them since they help keep the freaking field mice population under control, and I only have so many traps. The darned things make a mess of my house.

My approach is similar to yours. I know I am having a mouse problem when I start seeing snakes around my house. i let the non-poisonous ones go, usually shoo them or relocate them. Copperheads, mocassins and rattlers, well, considering we have dogs and a pretty mobile 15 month old daughter, they get extinguished. I am just not willing to take that chance.

There's probably more of a chance getting hit by some one texting in their car, than getting bit by a snake.

Talk about p'ing people off, I believe I have the distinction of being the only person ever to be flipped off by Mr. Rogers.

I think Rattlesnakes are cool.

Hope they mind their business and I'll mind mine!

I'm with you. I have a fenced property and my dogs stay on it. I let the non venomous snakes be. I've even released several to help with rats and mice. I have 2 gopher tortoises on my place now and I expect more. Not a problem for me.
But rattlesnakes have to be eliminated. I don't have a choice the way I see it.
If I see a mocasin or any venomous snake in the woods, I let it be, won't go near it. Years ago I would kill them but not any more. I leave em for the dog hunters to deal with

It was real ironic the day I posted this my whippets found a 3 foot speckled king snake in the yard. He was relocated. I chalked it up to God testing my honesty in my tbn post!!
