We use a feeder very similar to "Welding is Fun's". Difference would be a trough on the botttom to catch the hay from falling on the ground and a few verticals so they can get their heads into the trough or pull it out of the overhead V; but NOT climb up into it and do their thing in there. There is always one of them that thinks that is their personal place to bed down or get rid of their fluids/solids..........

The trough on the bottom has totally diminished the waste, and at the cost of square bales of bermuda/alfalfa everything I can do helps the bottom line.........Dennis

I guess one question I have is how many cattle are you going to be feeding. I know in my case it would have been a pain in the *** to keep moving all of the feeders for 100 head.

Sorry Willl. I misunderstood what you meant.

Believe it or not, the waste hay you see there on the ground is all there is from the winter's feeding and from a round bale feeder http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/130956-round-bale-feeder-w-pics.html sitting 20 feet away. I can't complain too much.

That is a nice barn. I know what you mean when you say there are not many left in central Illinois. My father in law has one that is getting in bad shape and he says it would be cheaper to build a pole barn then fix his old one up. While I know this is true I hate to see it go. His insurance company refuses to insure it anymore so maybe it is time to see it go. The main problem we are having is the foundation is gone. We keep patching the roof but it is a loosing battle.
