Practice with the bucket about 1 foot off the ground to keep from doing wheelies, once you get the hang of it you can do it while its on the ground.

Mine drops faster than I'd like.. I usually start with it on the ground or close to it.

You have to have your bucket right at ground level, then throw into float quickly. If you don't do it quick it will start to raise the tractor. Float relieves hydraulic pressure, having only the weight of the loader holding it down, thus "floating".
That's why if you have the bucket raised, it will drop freely!

That is what I do.

Op's hand must only have the slow motion feature.

Many, but back dragging with the bucket is one. You can use it to evenly spread gravel or dirt. It is not a box blade, and won't move a large amount of materiel but you can adjust the bucket angle a bit to move a bit more or less material. Here is a very short demo of an old fat boy smoothing out some gravel by traveling in reverse with the bucket in "float" with some angle on the bucket.

I use mine with bucket skid shoes for moving snow, it maintains the same height with no adjusting. Backdragging sand is another use.

I use float when plowing snow or using my snowblower. Stops the implement from digging into the ground.

k0ua, yep, float is very useful for gravel etc, for leveling.
If I see the ground is not quite level and find float rides the "hill's", here's what i do...
I start at a level spot, drop the bucket "in float" then remove the "float" function and add just a "little'
down pressure, this will keep a level field for those "little' hill's,
then, repeat, but in float only.
It takes practice but works well.
