2005 BX23
Hello all,
Could someone please go through the procedure of getting the FEL into the float position on a BX23. I have tried to push control forward but the only thing happening is front of the tractor comes off ground. And I tried to ingage it with loader in air, and pushed real hard, no luck! Does the bucket have to be compleatly level?? I don't want to break something but it just does not ingage, help!!
Thanks, and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!:) :)

Just push it forward in one forceful motion quick and crisp and don't hold it, make sure it is off the ground lets say about a foot before you do this.

Where are you in NY upsate? I maybe able to come check it out :)

It should go into float from any position the bucket is in. Give it a crisp push forward and that should do it. Let us know how you make out.

Try it with the engine off (and bucket on the ground) if you're afraid of breaking something. You'll feel the stick snap into float position. The stick will remain in that position until you pull it back out.

It is a solid, generous shove past a "detent" pushing the stick straight toward the front of the tractor. It will feel like you've hit the end of the stick's travel, but there is more up there, we promise. Once you get past the spring loaded detent, you'll say "Oh, OK...that's what they're talking about..."

If the other ideas don't work, the valve may be frozen up. My BX23 won't stay in the float position unless I hold the lever up manually. I have taken the valve apart and there was a tiny bit of water in the bottom of the covers. I drained the little bit of water and soaked the springs in WD-40, but it did not free up the valves. I saw on another thread the rebuild kit for these valves is about $25 so I've been waiting to got to the dealer to get the kit. I didn't know my machine had a detent to hold it in the float position until I read it here.
It sounds like it can be a common problem.

Here's a copy of a recent post I made on this topic. Hope it helps:D

Floating your bucket

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I'm having my little adventures and learning experiences and I thought I'd share a tidbit. Please forgive me if this tip is overly obvious to the experienced, but I've read a few posts that mentioned the float setting without how to go about using it and maybe somebody will benefit . Please share other FEL operating tips if you have them. I don't want to learn everything by trial and error and error So here it is.

To plow forwards or scrape with your bucket you can use the float setting to make your bucket follow the contours of route in front of you. Lifting the FEL control lever until you feel the click/detent settting puts you into float. The first few times I tried this, I levelled the bucket and lowered it to the ground and lifted the lever to feel the float setting kick in. I kept setting downpressure on the bucket. Not helpfull when you are trying to slide over the ground without digging in. Here's my little insight. Level the bucket then click into float while its still up in the air. It will float down gently and you're good to go.

The adventurous will try this on the move and without due regard to setting the bucket level . Those less inclined to excitement, digging ruts, and possible repair bills, will perform this little adjustment while stationary. Hope this help another noobie out there. It works great!

Yes, I Found The Float!
Many thanks to all who responded for help trying to get the BX23 FEL into float, it works just great. It's the nuts for scraping the blacktop after doing the snow with blower. (Any excuse to play with my toys).

Do the rest of us a favor, and make sure you always refer to your tractor as a "tool" in front of your wife, mother, mother-in-law, or sister  . We don't want women catching on that tractoring is fun ;) ! Last night after making a few quick passes on my own driveway, i took care of a couple of my neighbors. If i had only been out twenty minutes, and not the hour and a half or so i was out........ my wife would think my tractor was a waste of money ! Obviously if i was out and back in, in a short time, she'd want me to sell the tractor and go back to shoveling !

God bless my sweet wife, she encourages me to get on my B7510 and she knows it is my big 'toy' tractor.

Maybe she just wants me out of the house for a while?????

Glad you found the float position. It's all part of the learning experience.
