Currently building a subframe mount for my new Koyker 80 FEL and when its ready in a few days I am currious as to how to "bleed" the cylinder circuit. Do I just poor fluid into the hoses and hope to get an air free fill by dumping fluid into both ends of the line (red, blue and yellow, green)? Or do I hook up the quick connects and cycle the cylinders with the cylinder connections loose? Sorry to appear a neophyte but I am, first tractor and first loader.

Thanks for any advice,
Jim

Just cycle the functions back and forth and the air will be forced out. Open center hydraulics are easy to bleed.

Welcome to TBN Jim.

Shaley's right. Just cycle each cylinder with the controls a time or two and they will cycle the air out without a problem. If you try to do anything else you will have a huge mess, and totally unnecessarily so.

There are a few special things you need to do. Have extra fluid on hand.

1) Extend one set of cylinders all the way and hold the handle against the stop for 1 second after you reach full extend.

2) Shut off the engine, check the fluid level and add as needed. There will probably be bubbles in the oil and some extra noise from them.

3) Retract the same set of cylinders all the way and hold the handle against the stop for 1 second after you reach full retract.

4) Shut off the engine, check the fluid level and add as needed. There will probably be bubbles in the oil and some extra noise from them.

5) Repeat steps 1-4 for the other set of cylinders.

NOTE: This is the long way and assumes that you have a small hydraulic reservoir. It is made to keep you from running dry and harming the pump.

6) Run both sets of cylinders to full extend and hold for 3-5 seconds agains the stops. Run both sets of cylinders to full retract and hold for 3-5 seconds.

7) Check the fluid level. Check for bubbles. If there are bubbles, you will need to repeat step #6 a time or two.

8) Check the fluid level the next day and top off as needed.

Thanks to every one for the advice. What I ended up doing was filling each circuit with a pump oil can with the required ATF type F then installed the male nipples and retouched by pumping against the check balls with the pump can. Hook them up and followed the following procedure in short form since the cylinders and lines were previously filled. It worked out quite well, pump a few strokes then tap the hoses to bring any air to the top and pump some more. Still had to add an additional quart to the reservoir but work out well. Thanks again
