I just had to repair mine due to about 10 sections being pushed over by flooding. I used a TSC PHD with a 9"auger for 4x4 posts and I thought it was the perfect size. I have a 5 board design with green mesh wire on the inside. I bought a Passlode framing nailer and staple gun as well as a dewalt battery powered circular saw. It is amazing how fast I could put the fence up after I had the posts in

I struggled with the PHD at first but figured out to use it at a very low RPM and it was much easier. I also bought a chain hoist for my barn. After the PHDs are assembled they are a bear to put on and take off!

Also if you go vinyl there is a trick to it. Got to be dead on for the 16' rails they have clips to install on the ends to hold the rail into the post.

You can not just pull up a string mark the holes at 8' O.C. and go drill them all cause you will be off and find yourself doing alot of hand digging.

I pulled up 1320' of poly baler twine as tight as I could without breaking ... put in some t-post to keep the string off the ground. Started on one end and blasted in several holes only to find I was reeming them out to maintain the 8' o.c. then I changed up and I used the actual 16' vinyl rail ... laid in the ground centered on the last post installed and then measured the 8' used the hand PHD to start the pilot hole and then another one at the end of the 16' rail and went on 2 holes at a time installing the rails as I went.

I would also go about 100' up the line and get the string height where I wanted it for the top of the vinyl post use a rubber mallet to tap the post down to the string height, plumb the post, pour in sackrete, intall, the rails and move on.

I fixed that... i bought a vinyl rail crimping tool on ebay...hehe:laughing:

Show me ... picture please and I assume it crimps vinyl ... I only wonder where to use it on 3 rail fence. I gotta be educated here ... cause I'm thinking about removing the 3 rail board fence and putting up Vinyl.

So ... what then? If the rail is to long cut it to fit and put a notch in it too receive the clip?

thats exactly how its done. Thatway if you hit a rock or whatnot while installing, its no big deal as long as you err on the short side. The notch IS the clip. two on each side of the cut

Thank you ... if and when I install more vinyl I have to get me one ... wait neighbors always borrow things from neighbors .... ain't that right neighbor!!!

Not that it wouldn't be great to meet thegreat ... and your part of the world sure would be nice to visit. But I think UPS would save me a little time!!

Around here, we would paraphrase that to "or just let it rot down" :laughing: I've helped nail up a plank fence, but never set the posts.

Edit.. nobody's mentioned faced round posts. I think that was what I was nailing to. They plane off a flat spot on the side of the round post to make nailing to it easier.
