Fencing, to dig or to drive post?

I've got about a mile of fencing to do, so you guys have piqued my interest. How much is a new HD-10? (Just so I can judge the asking prices of used ones.)

Thanks again on all the comments about the drivers. Makes me feel like I might be able to use them where I live. I still plan on calling shaver before I make my final decision.

Paapy, the price new is around 3k for a manual tilt and around 5k for hydraulic tilt. It's a big price tag but if I can drive a post in just a couple of mins it beats augering a hole then setting a post and backfilling the hole which seems to take me about 30mins on average by myself with my soil conditions. Sometimes even longer. I've spent half a day on one hole before.

Every now and then you can find a use one for a good price or so I've been told. I've been watching for a year and only found one about 3hrs from me and they wanted 5k for one of the nicer ones that cost over 10k new. I didn't buy it because of the drive and I didn't have the right size tractor for it.

I have a Shaver HD-10 I picked up on Craigslist, I think for $1500. Has the hydraulic tilt, and included both the 3-point mount and skid loader mount. I might need to eventually buy a new rod (slight pitting on it), but it doesn't leak and works fine so perhaps not.

My first fence was 1 acre, I drilled each post with my 3-point and set, then tamped in. It took forever. To this day (3 years later?) the posts are still loose. Driving a post now, it is instantly set in the ground FIRMLY. Pointed posts do help, but are not required. In the hardest clay, the 4" auger or pointed posts may be a necessity, but it'd be worth it. I wouldn't go any other way. It's tough to keep around as it's something you rarely use, but I got it so inexpensively I can't get rid of it.

Can you point me in the direction? I'd give 1200 for a hd10 manual. Question is where and how much is it going to cost me to get it here?

It's actually a full hydraulic. I asked for details, I'll let you know what I find out. Apparently it has wheels on the back instead of the normal stabilizers, but they have no photos.

I'll be waiting on you. I've been watching used listings with no luck. By fall if I haven't found one I'll probably just buy new but would rather not if I could keep from it.

I live in southern WV I have a manual tilt ShaverHD10 I just put on CL for $800, only used it a couple of times, seems to work ok, I put a 3pt hitch mount on it when I got it( about 6 years ago) been sitting in garage ever since, got rid of cattle tearing down most of fence to make easier to mow, anyway I have it & sounds like u need it, needs a couple of pipe fittings to operate lol at pics an see what u think 304-593-8268
