Afternoon Guys,
Not alot to report in on, I apologize for the slowdown on this project but I have been sidelined doing a bunch of other not so fun stuff !;)

I have managed to sandblast the points, shins and moldboards and get some paint on everything. The plow beams will be next if I dont get to many more requests for leaky plumbing house problems etc ! :)

Afternoon Guys,
I have been wanting to get back into this project for sometime now but as you know I have been busy with other not so fun jobs:(

Anyway I got a bunch of parts painted this mornin, yep thats a new tail wheel in the back left corner $$$ dont ask please. The guys I work with felt we could bang it out and reweld to make like new but I went out and spent more money  Not like me at all ! :) Anyways the second pic is the old tail wheel that I opted to replace.

Hopefully this weekend I can get the plow beams painted, they are forged and have a rougher finish so Im going to attempt to paint thm with a brush, they are just too heavy to hang in the spray booth !

Hey Guys and Gals the Ferguson plows look alot like the Dearborn plows because back in the day when Harry Ferguson and Henry Ford were still speaking to each other. Alot of Ford (Dearborn) equipment was identical to Ferguson equipment. But the Henry did not want to pay up for put the 3 point systems on his Ford tractors and then the friendship ended. Ever notice how the early Ford tractors looked alot like the TO 20 and TO 30 Fergusons?????

Howdy Scotty!

You're gonna have the same identical problem I have if you aren't carefull. That plow is going to look so good, you won't want to get it dirty!

I MIGHT be using mine FINALLY this weekend. Sweetcorn patch is ready to be rolled over. We had a little rain in the past few days and the dust might be settled for now. (We're still well over 10" behind on rainfall for the year)

You might have worn out a good hammer trying to straighten that old tailwheel. ;)

Scott,
I just came across your project today for the first time and it's of great interest to me. I'm in the process of restoring a Dearborn model 10-156 two bottom plow. In fact, I delivered it to my friend's shop for sandblasting this morning. I've lucked out with a salvage/surplus guy nearby that has had everything I need in the way of replacement hardware, like the grade 8 fine thd bolts, at $1.00/lb! He even had the "clipped head" bolts that hold my points on. If you run into a dead end on any hardware I would be glad to try to help you.
Your tailwheel looks exactly like my does. I've decided to go ahead and clean it up and paint it. I bought new 14" points from a guy on E-bay. I was able to buy a new coulter wheel from a local Amish farmer. I need to keep this project a low budget effort and so far I've been lucky.
Keep posting (especially photos) and I'll be adding photos of mine when I get it back.
Regards,
-Len

Scott, sorry for the long time between posts, but I've been Elk hunting in Idaho (drove from VA). Got a bull, but, a looonngg story....As far as the clutch job on the 140, the flywheel had some hairline cracks (apparently from heat) that was acting like razor blades against the clutchplate...Anyway, the guy has taken another flywheel, had it resurfaced, and is waiting on a new clutch plate...will have it back in a couple of weeks. How's the plow??? I think I saw that you opted for cast??? BobG in Va

Afternoon Bill,
You might be right about that ! ;) All those nicely painted parts are gonna get a bit dirty ! :)

Hi Len,
Glad you found the thread, but Bill and Bob are the ones with all the plow and plowing experience ! Im just kind of fumbling my way through this project, but Im sure they can help if you have any technical questions !

Hey Bob,
Welcome back from the hunting trip ! Sounds like fun ! Yep cast shares but I may chicken out and install steel before I actually plow with it !

I got the plow beams painted today, I did my best brush job, and they didnt come out bad ! Im hoping to buy some hardware this week and start reasembling this thing ! Good thing I took some pictures before I tore it apart ! ;)

Hey Scotty, looking great. I see a competition revving up between you and FarmWithJunk to see who posts the firsts comrehensive pictutorial on plowing. I'm sure a lot of us wannabees are watching you guys closely, I know I am.

I got my hands dirty today with an entirely different project, front axle u-joints on my truck. Not a lot of fun.

Keep the pics coming, it's great seeing your progress.

By the looks of things, it'll be next spring (at the soonest) before any plowing happens here. Even with 2"+ rain last week, the ground is too dry to do anything with right now. Patience.
