Ferguson TO-30

I have a chance to purchase a 1954 TO-30 that the owner claims it has a steering 'issue' turning to the right. He claims a steering box can be had for $350. Sooo...
Does that sound true? I could find no such animal on a quick online search.
Are these difficult for a non mechanic type to work on?

The tractors themselves are pretty simple. Sourcing parts may be another story. If you and the owner are sure it's a steering box issue perhaps you could add $350 to the purchase price and have the owner provide the steering box when he sells you the tractor. Of course you'd be willing to install it yourself. I've not seen the tractor nor observed the problem. A dragging brake on one side or a low tire can make it pull one way, too.

i had a TO35 for decades, steering box was problematic, likely same as the TO30 you're looking at. too much slop. there is an adj on the box to take up slop, but given the vintage, the slop is probably way beyond limits on the one you're considering. (if the steering problem is only to the left, look at the tie rod condition as well on both sides)

i had a machine shop work on mine. so i can't advise you directly other than maybe consider that option. otherwise, salvage would be the way to go if truly interested. Looks like Jeff9366 has already scouted that

& welcome to this forum, let us know if you go forward with it (the ft wheel bearings will probably need repacking as well) change out all filters as well as hyd fluid. when working, that vintage series is field & time tested
