fifth wheel and gooseneck hitch questions

The nice thing about the B&W hitch is you can just leave it in the truck all the time, makes is easier to grab a gooseneck trailer from somewhere on short notice without having to run home and grab something to make it work. And it doesn't take up any room at all in the bed, it's completely out of the way.

Guy's, how does the 5th-w to GN adapter work?
I thought that the 5th-w are about 10" up above the bed, where the GN's are at bed level. My GN hitch (on the trlr) is adjustable but I don't think it has 10" of adjustment. I haven't checked into it but I thought that you could only go 5th-w to GN with adapters and not the other way. Just curious.
I've used these folks before and they are good to deal with and offer a complete line. I think they are a small family type bus. that has a big business professionalism. Welcome to Weaver Distributing

The easy way is to have 5th wheel rails in the bed, and own the following:

5th wheel hitch that uses bed rails

Gooseneck ball plate that uses bed rails.

Just install the one you need at the time.

'The goose' is the Reese version of a gooseneck ball on a plate that mounts to 5th wheel mounting rails

The "rails" were mentioned for sure, but my mental image immediately went to those older bent up channel that goes up and over the wheel well into the bed. There's the source of my confusion…. that **** "mental image"

I have never personally owned a truck with a gooseneck or fifth wheel, but have towed and worked with plenty. I find the best option for most of us around here is the turnover system, if you load a lot of pallets and bags of material that can get snagged easy. I know B&W makes a 5th wheel hitch that fits the turnover system, leaving no rails in the bed. Companion 5th Fifth Wheel Hitch | B & W Trailer Hitches

Some are saying that the turnovers are high maintenence, but if you semi-frequently use them and change them out and simply keep them lubed they work great! Either way you decide to go, congrats on the truck!

Yup, I keep mine lightly coated with white lithium grease, never had any problems even in very cold weather. I just wipe it off and re-grease about once a year.

I vote for the underbody GN hitch. MY FIL had one of the GN rails in the bed hitches and I always thought it pulled funny. He recently changed over to a flatbed and a underbody GN ball and it tows so much better it feels like a different truck. I think that the connection with the trailer has less leverage on the body of the truck and makes it tow smoother. I personally hate the rails in the bed because they always seem to be in the road or filled with crap and you have to dig them out to install the hitch. Just my .02 though.

I've had the rail system and used it to pull a GN horse/stock trailer. I thought it worked well. The only 'issues' I had were as follows. Nothing major, but if I were to get another GN hitch, I'd probably opt for the underbed type.

1. I had a plastic bedliner that was cut out around the rails. The bedliner was about the same height as the rails, so I could slide things in the bed easily. However, the holes the GN hitch fit into filled with debris that held water, had to be cleaned out to both use the hitch and prevent rust.

2. The GN hitch used four pins to attach to the rails. The pins also had 'clips' that I had to put in holes in the clips. Not fun when the rails were packed with debris or frozen.

I vote B a W flip over hitch, I love mine, it's out of the way, no rails or permanent ball in the bed, dragging rails in and out,I would then use a adapter and convert the 5 wheel on the camper to a gooseneck hitch. I really don't like the idea of having to mess with the heavy hitch and rails. If I kept the 5th wheel hitch on the camper, I would still go with the flip over hitch and use B a W 's slide in 5th wheel hitch that mounts where the gooseneck goes, pull the pin on the side and swap the ball for the 5th wheel hitch and your done after you latch it back! Everyone is voting turnover style. And my vote would be the same if there wasnt the need for the 5'er, and already having the rails.

The biggest benefit of the underbody/turnover is not having rails in the bed. With wanting the 5'er, and already having the rails, you arent gaining the big benefit.
