Finally broke something - YM186D 3-point lift lever does nothing

Just had a look at the diagram.
A thought.

If the roll pin , item 7, was broken that would explain your symptoms.

I'll add that I incurred a similar situation (roll pin) on my 4wd shifter (on a different tractor).
Replaced the pin some 6 years ago and no further problems.
My big feet (and cramped cockpit) brought on my problem.

Agree. I hope that's all I need. And the Yanmar Parts Manual shows a second smaller roll pin driven inside that pin. If this is the only problem it will be an easy fix.

What I need to research now is if I need a new special gasket for that top assembly. With the lowering-rate valve in there, it may be subject to full hydraulic pressure needing critical sealing.

Thankfully I just finished the last project before winter rains, grading the lane out to the highway. Downtime now while I repair this, is harmless.

My next project will be to use the larger tractor to backhoe out the stumps of a few fallen trees in the orchard, after some rain softens the soil.

It's nice to have documentation when you need it most. Even the parts diagrams at times are almost as helpful as a service manual.

Wish we had more of these manuals available. They are out there someplace.

Studying the next page, Section 54, it feels like #6 Fork is no longer attached to the lift lever assembly that is supposed to control it. I hope that's all it is.

Hoye's diagram is clearer than that manual and same part numbers:

I'm probably really late and only made it a few posts below this one, but I also think it almost sounds like a roll pin fell out or sheared off. I have not been in one of these 3 points but it it was on the 240 I have a pretty dang good understanding of how that works after the valve fiasco I went through a few years or so back, plus having rebuilt the 3pt on it.

It is amazing to me that it seems there are so few Yanmar factory service manuals. Since these had dealers 30 years ago. Either the dealers threw them out and never stayed around to end up in owners hands or resale market (eBay) or maybe there were fewer of them than we think due to the simplicity of these and factory specs on repair were largely ignored?? Or like tolerances or torques?

Luckily I have the Hoye reprint of the factory Service Manual. Unfortunately the photo showing where that fork goes, is muddy and doesn't reveal much. It does have one important caution: when lifting the cover off, hold the slow-descent valve seat (?) so it doesn't fall into the gears. Does anyone have the pdf of YM186 Service Manual?

Studying some more I think the problem is the rollpin attaching the fork to the shift lever as described above, or equally likely a problem where the lower part of the fork pulls/pushes rollpins (outer/inner) on the plunger that goes into the hydraulic valve. See #1 in this Hoye diagram.

I hope I can solve this with just rollpins. Going farther than that, looks expensive.

I'm not going to start on this before Christmas.

Not on my end. However ...

The Yanmar GroupsIO site has a YM195 Service Manual, but it doesn't touch anything in that area of the tractor.

The YM169 Service Manual has some standards for bolt torques. It has Section 3 and Section 6 with great details of the hydraulic lift system.

Does the YM240 Hydraulic Service Manual YT7707-165E help you any?

There are YM135 YM155 YM169 YM195 YM276 Service Manuals all available over there along with the Parts Manuals.

Thanks. I have the 195 and 240 manuals including hydraulic. I also looked at the YM155 service manual. Unfortunately none of those hydraulic lift systems are like YM186, as shown in the Hoye diagrams above.

I should have mentioned I have a clear pdf of YM186 Parts Manual so I can see how things go together and can order parts. Wish I had YM186 Service Manual in pdf so I could print pages for shop use. I don't really want to take my paper version out to the shop. Its binding is fragile and I think pages will fall out with continued use.

Thanks for looking those up!

Maverick, I can't find that manual. :confused3:

Winston,

Thanks for pointing that out.

Now fixed.
