I finally found a box blade at a cheap enough price for me. I paid $350 for a 48“ box blade and found it on Tractorhouse. The stuff on Marketplace was all over the place on price and quality and when I did occasionally find one it was too far away. It’s had light use and was a little heavier duty than I expected. I had to drive about 35 miles and it was at a New Holland dealer.

(y) on the purchase. :)

That's a good price. I've been planning on building one for years, I have most of the materials but need to find time to do some practice welding first. Last year I decided to bite the bullet and buy one, only to find that the price for a 5 foot blade has nearly doubled in the last 4 years or so; they are now well over $1000.
I just saw a 48" Tarter for $999, I would say that you got a good deal. 👍

I’ve been keeping an eye out for one for a while. I jumped on this one right away.

Good buy.
I searched for one for years in the DC area before I found on at an acceptable price and condition. Down in Mississippi the used ones for sale were always rusted out.

That's a great price, and it's in excellent shape. Good score!

I'd offer to loan you mine, but it never leaves my tractor. 🤣

I purchased mine in early 2020 before the prices went too nuts, and paid a bit over $1k for it. I thought it was a little steep at the time, but I liked the dealer and didn't mind paying them a little more. Honestly, they were great to work with. It's a nice medium-duty box blade, a little heavy for the 1025R I had at the time, but I'd insisted- just in case I ever upgraded tractors. Well, the box blade fits my Kioti just right.

When I bought mine I accidently stumbled on a semi-local machine shop that had made a few box blades for some reason or other. I got the last one which was a 7' that is BUILT, don't think a tank could hurt it and it is very heavy. All 1/2" steel with AR end plates for $700, I don't see how he could have made much profit on them at the prices he asked.

Best thing to do after buying a cheap box blade is to weld reinforcements and hitch frame before it bends. So much easier fix before a bend. Add a receiver hitch or tool pockets. Box blade now stores the hitch crane. After buying Land Plane hadn’t used the box or grader blade.

I had a chance to use it today, my driveway to the house is paved but I have a second driveway and storage area that is gravel. It was easier and worked better than I expected. Where a rear blade tends to bounce up and down every time the tractor tires hit a bump the box blade stays put. Having quarter inching on the three point helps also.

I'd like to add a receiver tube to my 5.5' box blade. It would be easier for me to cut a hole in the rear blade and run it through to the front cross member, but I"m wondering if that is going to weaken the blade?

This is what I did when I bought it.
If anything it made it stronger.
iIt’s very handy.

That's what I want to do. I see what looks like a reinforcement gusset on the outside. What thickness did you use? Did you also place a gusset on the inside of the blade?

Fishplate on outside is 1/4”.
Although it probably didn’t need it, I thought it looked good. Inside is just welded.
I purchased the receiver tube at harbor freight.

Good price. If I should be so lucky

I bought my Gannon Rollover blade a few years back.
Found it on a classifieds board. I really like it.
Cost me $140.00
