I do not and will never envy you! I'll take my Texas heat any day!

After spending 20 + years in South Florida…. I will take Maine any time of the year! I guess it is just what you are used to /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, at least it's white stuff.

The wife was passing through Skagit valley on Sat. on her way to visit her sister when she stopped to take this photo. It seems a little late this year but thousands (tens of) of Trumpeter Swans make an annual migration through here. Quite the sight.

Larry,
When I was a kid I was fishing on Folsom Lake in Northern California on a very foggy morning and I saw thousands of birds that look like the ones in the photo you posted. I always wondered what the birds were. Guess Folsom Lake is on their migration path too. Thanks for posting the photo.
I now live in Mid Michigan and have been pretty lucky this year as far as snow goes, only had to plow three times and used the blower once. Most years I have had to move snow at least 6 times by now.

I got back from New York at about 5 last night to find 15" or so. Took about 2 hours to clean up my driveway and paths and the 10 driveways of my neighbors, plus the pile that the town plow throws up at the end of our cul-de-sac. My 62" Puma and FEL made pretty short work of it all and I got some seat time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You're right about the cold; it was 17def F. but I was comfortable pretty much the whole time. It all depends on what you're wearing, too. I put on expedition weight Capoline longjohns under Goretex and am as comfortable as I would be indoors. ...Except for my hands, even insulated mittens get cold after about 1 1/2 hours so I keep another set on a heater vent so that I can change into them. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If that doesn't work, try putting a couple of chemical handwarmers from REI into your gloves/mittens. I use'em on mountains (sometimes in boots, too) and they are wonderfully effective.

I agree about the heat. I like the Phoenix heat better than the cold, but shouldn't you compare apples to apples. I would rather deal with the heat (low humidity) in AZ, than deal with 85 degrees and 80 percent humidity any day anywhere else. Don't enjoy feeling like I just took a shower everytime I walk out doors.

As for winter cold, we are having a nice and cold 75 degree day. Not bad for February.

Enjoy your snow.

Hi all, this is my toy I use to clear my yard and my neighbors yard. Both yards are over 200 feet long, paved...takes about 15 minutes per yard to clear them. Obviously, if it snows more than a foot, then it take a bit longer, need to slow ground speed a bit not to clog shute. Even when it is windy, I can usually turn the in the opposite direction so I don't look like Frosty when I'm done. Roger

I've been to AZ... very nice. It was about 100 and felt like 75. As for SE TX.... about 95 and 100% humidity during the summer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But I'll still take it over the COLD! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've got many friends who've moved to the desert either Palm Springs or out to Arizona and they always tell me "well, it's a different kind of heat". That used to drive me crazy but I understand what they mean now.

I live in So California where the weather is perfect (most of the time)/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but my property is located in the foothills of Sequoia National Park closer to Central Ca. It gets a little cooler there than where I live. Many times when it's in the 50's° I've taken my jacket off because I got too hot. I'd never do this at home.

Now I understand....I guess "it's a different kind of cold" up there? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
