Finally Hit Garage with ROPS

I admit I have done that to including crushing the outside light above the garage door. Now I hang an orange rope on the garage door handle when I have the L3240 tractor out to remind me to lower the ROPS before parking ;) My BX1860 is low enough with the fixed ROPS to clear the garage door it parks in.

I may have you all beat in a fashion. I don't normally have my tractor at the house. But on occasions I do. One such time to put lights on the rear. Remembered to lower the Rops. Tractor was pretty new then and I was careful. About a year later I started to pull it into the same garage to do some maintenance and forgot about the ROPS. There was an abrupt halt, the should of crunching wood and crinkling aluminum trim. Real Bummer was it was my neighbors garage!:ashamed:

Good thing I helped him with the contruction he was very good about it.

I have owned my BX24 for a few years now and I knew someday that I would forget to put down the (ROP) roll over protection bar when I went back into the garage.
Today was the day I drove into the garage with the bar up and smashed the bar into the brickmold and siding. No big deal, I was going pretty slow and only gouged the molding a little. It was prettty cool when the front wheels lifted off the ground and I wondered what the %#*@ was going on.

Congratulations. Lets have some pictures....

Having done it a few times I finally "lower" my ROPS. Cut and rewelded the upper portion. Now it clears by 1/2" Nicely!!!

My first (and only so far!)Used small sledge to get it free with minimal damage - luckily. I was dreading the thought of deflating my filled tires.......

Or ya could 've maybe let some air out of tires.

I know your pain!

I needed to get my b7800 into the garage for temp storage and to work on it. I have a heavy canopy too so lowering the Rops was very difficult and would damage both the canopy and the seat on the backhoe if i let it all the way down. Having bad arms/hands doen't help.

So far I added a 5/8" cross pin (with a rubber cushion) to the rops hinge midway in its swing so it folds just enough. Still have to screw in/out main rops bolts but if i slip it won't damage anything.
Good news is canopy/rops just clears it's new homes roof ( converted shipping container) by a whole 1" and can stay in up position.

I may add a 12 volt actuator in the future to raise and lower rops. Actuator would be way cool and cost less than $125 if you DIY.

When my contactor built my garage they mismeasured the rough opening and the door was about six inches short. Instead of lowering the header I made a deal with them to leave it higher, supply few metal moldings in matching color to extend the last section of the door and finish my garage inside with rib metal. So now I can drive my tractor in with the ROP up just clearing the opening. But here is the funny part I drove with top bicycle rack with two bicycles on it in the garage. Obviously the 6 extra inches didn't make much difference. It made a big bang and the bike carrier just landed behind the car. Surprisingly there was no damage to the bikes or the carrier or the car.

I've lost count of my own stuff I've either run into or over.

Garage door trim with just about every tractor or quad I've put in the garage.

Wheel barrow with excavator.

House corner trim with crawler / loader.

Station wagon with trailer

Ford Ranger door with Tree.

Excavator mirror with Tree.

Trailer ramp with backhoe.

Kinda funny when I think back.

Joel

LOL, Kind of makes me feel like a rookie. I've only manage to kill one water pipe with a faucet so far.

I just bought a Kubota MX5100 with the high ROPS a few months ago. It fits in one of my garage doors but not the other. I am sure it is just a matter of time until I join this exclusive club....

Wow, what took you so long? I "remodelled" the top of the barn door within an hour of my shiny new toy being driven off the delivery truck.
