Finally My Pole Barn/Workshop Has Started

The purlins are held with the metal screwed on from the outside. The 2x6 will allow me to add a little insulation, frame between them with 2x4 before attaching the osb. Everyone I look at that these guys built did not have a problem with sagging and most were not finished on the inside.

Never saw it done this way, which makes me curious about it. As long as you are happy with it, then that's all that matters.

I have seen them referred to as "bookshelf girts" or "commercial girts", it seems pricing wise this can be close to a traditional stick built, and cheaper than running double girts for finished inside walls. My understanding is that it is useful when other rules come into play, such as local tax differences between a traditional and pole structure, or the skill set of the contractor.

Hunterridgefarm,

Can you share the name of your barn builder? There are at least 2 of us near Greenville, SC, that are shopping for barns and we like the looks and pricing for yours. Also, if you know other builders in the area, Western NC or Upstate SC, that we can contact, that would be helpful.

Thanks

I will send you a PM.

Eddie,

I know it is different than what is considered a traditional pole barn build but it seems to work. If I have any issues in the future I will resurrect this thread.

Make that 'at least' 3:D. Love the shop, and would love a PM of the builder as well!
