Great ideas everyone. Now about maintenance:
Vibrating equipment can cause the powder to pack down. Every six months or so, take the extinguisher off the tractor, turn over and rap the bottom hard with a rubber hammer. I used to say,' turn it upside down and hit it on a tire before use', but in the excitement that seems to get over looked.

If it is outside, put a soft, easily remembered to be removed, plug in the nozzle or cover with something. Wasps, bees such can build nests in the larger hose nozzles leaving you with the potential of two problems. Smaller nozzles are prone to mud-daubers, carpenter bees. This happens in barns as well.




I have a couple of ways I prepare: I have a 5 lb ABC on the ROPS and a 2.5 gallon H2O extinguisher on the brush hog mower.

mine has bracket strapped to rops.

That is how I did mine also...works great!

I had mine on rops tree branch snaggeed latch and tore off. Next time will turn guage to inside as branch tore gauge lose

@ALAN: tnx for pix, I've got a JD 4520 cab which doesn't have a nice spot like you found. If I get a solution I'll post.
I have a brother in Brownfield, ME. Nice country up there.

@Cidertom: Good advice. I also give my dry powered extinguishers at home a shake (no hammers, just shake them) every new years day so they don't get compacted.

@everyone: So far there are two downsides to cab tractors: no room/bad room for toolboxes and fire extinguishers. I'll focus on it this spring...

Yes, it's a school chair with the legs cut off. Not very soft. I used an old square life jacket as a pad.

It's got to be softer than the bent plywood chairs my butt occupied in school.

dont forget to do a monthly inspection on those extinguishers to check for pressure, hose cleanliness and rust on any pressure part. I would do the upside down shake, rattle and roll at least every month also. At the office we send them in for service every 12 months (we have the CO2 cartridge type ) and the service tech takes all the powder out and replaces it, checks the co2 cartridge and then recertifies it with a new sticker. I dont think the powder would be good for that long on a tractor without settling and compacting. I dont have one on my tractor, but I think I will get one for it. Maybe a nice CO2 type. NO powder settling problem with that. Having seen many powder extinguishers used to try to put out a paper fire, I would not trust them to put out burning leaves either. I watched a guy use up a 20lb. ABC powder type on some burning burlap bags and the fire never was put out. The bags were on some grating so it just kept feeding the oxygen to it. A good CO2 would have snuffed it completely.

I was able to find a handy spot just inside the left side cab door. I screwed the mounting bracket to hold it firmly in place. The location also allows me to access the extinguiser if I am standing outside the tractor. I have had it there for over a year now and it hasn't gotten in my way yet or blocked my vision.
