As for the use of a .22 for self defense. If the first 10 rounds of .22 jacketed don't do the job, the 16 rounds of .22 hollow points that follow will get me to the 12 gauge auto loaded with 1 oz and 1.25 oz hollow point slugs. Nothing says HELLO like a 12 ga racking a shell.;)

I've seen it for sure.. that's where I got the idea from. Heck.. I've seen a gun rack on a road grader.. I know a grader op that was doing work out in no mans land and brought home plenty of food during that job..

I am a hunter and enjoy my firearms but you might want check your local game laws. In Illinois it is illegal to discharge a firearm from a motorized vehicle (atvs, tractors, trucks & ect.) It is also illegal to chase or harass coyotes on an atv. Not saying I agree with said laws but maybe this warning will prevent a fine and weapon confiscation. I am sure that not all states have these type of laws on the books, my state can be odd at times, example our ex-governors may make your license plates :).

for the purpose of this discussion.. I think it would be pretty safe to construe it as such that the gun rack on the tractor was for mere transportation and storage of the weapon.. and that use of the weapon would adhere to all laws :)

I agree with what you are saying but here is a direct quote:

" I shot a couple nice timber rattlers last year from the seat and have shot and missed a couple pigs while moving."

I am not saying that anyone is trying to circumvent the law, just that you don't want an expensive or rude awakening to them. Have a good one.

Now see.. that post needs clarified.. :) I read it totally different.

I took 'seat' to mean the seat of his hunting stand.. and 'shot while moving' I took to mean either the pigs were moving when he fired.. or he was moving to get better aim when he fired. ;)

Ok, clarification is needed. I hunt with my son and a few friends. I keep everything ethical as I am teaching my son the ropes. We actually have pig damage permits. We were cutting down a field for a food plot and two timber rattlers came out of the weeds. I was walking in front of the tractor and my buddy was cutting. The snakes moved out and "bam", i killed em. Same day, walking a trail ahead of the tractor, two pigs ran out of the pines and down the trail in front of us. I tried to unholster and shoot quick, but the swine were faster. When cutting new areas, we always have someone walk the area first or ahead of the tractor to check for stumps, rocks, antlers old fencing, anything that can cause damage to the tractor. When cutting through the woods, we actually walk way ahead of the bush hog and flag one side of the trail to make sure the tractor can fit and have no problems. It is too difficult to wear a holster on a little yanmar. That is why I was asking how anyone else carries. The local guys that keep the dirt road graded have a rack in the grader. The grader is usually parked on the dirt raod. I have never been there while they were grading, but I am sure they carry something.

Oh believe me, I love my guns. I love to hunt. I use the tractor as a way to get me in the woods throughout the year as an excuse to my wife to go the the woods. Over the years, I have weeded through the long and short guns and only kept what I thought was needed and trustworthy for my arsenal.
