Today I have gone back to IE. Fire fox is simply not cut out for dumbos like me. I have used it for at least 12 mths so feel I have given it a good try. So many things just don't work with Firefox unless you are a computer wizz and have lots of time downloading Plugins and Extensions. What do others think.

I like Firefox, but I had to go back to IE because many of the business sites I have to log into will not work with Firefox. It had many features I liked, but since I use my computers mostly for work, I just couldn't use it.

Even myself, probably the biggest Firefox supporter here, can't use Firefox exclusively. I use them both together.

I do 99.9% of my browsing with Firefox... ESPECIALLY the time wasting type of browsing.. just following interesting links through many sites researching and you wind up where you wind up. I basically only use IE to run Windows Update and to visit the very few other sites I frequent that are coded specifically for IE.

I use IE in those very few sites that are coded exclusively for IE. Ironically.. Firefox is very standards based. Many sites that work only with IE are actually coded incorrectly (on purpose) to get them to work with IE. Along comes any fully standards compliant web browser and the shoddy code doesn't work right.

This one is also important to remember... Many sites take liberties with their code on your computers. They do things that are borderline security problems that IE freely coughs up information on. A large portions of those sites don't work in Firefox for VERY good reasons... Firefox doesn't let them. Companies and sites that are big in advertising are some of the biggest offenders of sites that are purposely coded to exclude browsers other than IE. They try to force you to use IE because it gives them so much power over the users computer and over what you see. Firefox gives a large portion of that back to the user and advertising companies don't like it one iota.

As I said in one other thread. Trust is a chain. Just because you trust a site well enough to use IE doesn't necessarily mean that linked ads from that trusted site are so trustworthy. Just like TBN. TBN is a good site run by good people, but can you honestly say that there is no chance that these fine fellows may occassionally mess up and have an advertiser slip through that does some wonky things to your machine (that you didn't authorize) with their code? I can't say that and very much like to be in control of my own destiny. With IE it is nearly impossible to set the security up so that a main page is trusted but all offsite code and images are not.. and even if you could lock it down like that, IE is so buggy and full of holes that it wouldn't make much of a difference. With Firefox I can control my own destiny and control exactly what makes it to my desktop and thus my eyes.

I switched to Firefox some months ago. I love it! I love tabbed browsing. I hate having more than one window open. I do switch to IE for the small amount of sites I visit that require it. Firefox is one cool browser.

I have used Avant browser for some time now, have not found a site as of yet that can not use it. I check for spy/ad ware weekly and have none. The computer this is on is a 5 year old home built (back when that was cost worth), that has outlasted some expensive computers. I used the KISS method, Keep it simply silly! With 2 80 gig drives and a 60 gig laptop harddrive adapted USB drive, I have all the storage I need

Okay, I confess. I do still have Foxfire on my computer. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I have the purchased version of Ad-Aware SE Plus. It runs real time to kill spyware and pop ups. Gees, do I ever hate pop ups!! I think Foxfire does a much better job of stopping them than the one with IE. Before I had the real time version of Ad-Aware, I not only got clobbered with these freakin' pop-ups, but when I ran a anti-spyware program weekly it always seemed to find dozens of spyware programs. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I bought the real time version because I don't like the stinking spyware programs on my computer at all; even if I can kill them when running a program.

Hopefully there will be some sort of legislation to stop the pop-ups!!! They are my personal pet peeve. I'll definitely never buy anything from a pop-up ad, and if I already use whatever product that pops-up, I never use it again! I try to do my part to "vote" with my money when it comes to the nasty pop-up crap!

Sorry for the rant, but pop-ups really tick me off! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Man.. I was sure hoping you were gonna apologize for ranting, seeing as how I've never ranted here myself I have right to get peeved when someone rants. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Heheh... Whew.. is that lightning outside?

I use FireFox except when there is an image requiring Quicktime to view it. I have tried and tried following all instructions and cannot get Quicktime to work with FireFox. It works fine with IE.

Do a search on a program called Quicktime Alternative. It is a Quicktime replacement program that works in all browsers and replaces Quicktime completely without taking over your system the way Quicktime does. It utilizes Windows Media Player Classic which is a replacement for WMP that also keeps you from having to use WMP and all its security problems (and stops the user tracking that it does).
