Gomez, I have tried several of the fireplaces mentioned here. As mentioned a zero clearance (really reduced clearance fireplace) is a great option. I have once owned the Vermont Castings Winter Warm which is a catalytic type. I thought it was OK. I installed a non catalytic reduced clearance in our cabin called a Regency. It is the best one thus far. Check out their website and check for yourself. Extrodinaire (sp) is also another brand that is big in size and uses a catalytic converter. Thanks to all for the other options. We have been looking at possibilities for a fireplace/woodstove/insert that could be used as an auxilary heat source for our house.
