First electric tractor ride

Ya can't say that. We still have steam tractors. We will have diesel tractors hanging around as long as there are french fries and cooking oil. Ever heard of biodiesel?

Sure, they can pry my diesel tractor from my cold dead hands, etc, etc.

But maybe his point was that we might not be allowed to buy new ones anymore, starting fairly soon. I'm not worried, personally. California and any other dumb ass states that want to follow them for this ban on internal combustion engine car sales starting in 2035, are going to eat crow and reverse course. I'd just about bet my life on it.

Kind of like buying a glider chassis (big truck) and putting a pre 4 diesel engine in it and titling it as new to circumvent the emissions mandates. Cannot do that anymore. Cannot title one with a new chassis and old engine. Same applies to tractors or anything with an internal combustion engine.

That could never work!!!

They work. For niche applications.

I have an electric, lifted cart. Limited range vs gas and I have to carry a generator to recharge when remote hunting.

We have a fleet of about 20 electric fork lifts, indoors, no emissions. But require a battery pack changeout between shifts. Takes 2 battery packs per lift to operate 2 shifts. That is 40 battery packs that require a crane to swap.

Interestingly, people whine about how long it takes to recharge the Bauer 20 volt tool batteries but so far for me, the slow Bauer charger hasn't degraded my batteries at all from what I can tell. I would think, same applies to a car battery.

I started investing in EV charger installation companies, so I am reading up on charging solutions.

Slow charges are better for the battery. Fast chargers reduce the number of recharges you can get on the battery............and the fast charge costs more than a slow charge when away from home, because the faster the charger, the more it costs to buy and install.

Best idea I have seen on charging is embedding the charger in the pavement and using wireless technology to charge the vehicle. A handful of busses, in England, are already getting 5-10 minute charges at designated bus stops. Each stop charges enough to get to the next 1 or 2 stops.
A short test road (I think 10 miles) in Michigan is being built now with embedded chargers.

Electric Fork lifts are no good in the rain and are constantly needed to be plugged in. If it was raining or snowing we never took them out side. They were for indoor use only. Electric Golf Carts don't have the fraction of load on them as a tractor would.

We had electric fork lifts with rotator clamps for paper rolls at the newspaper. A full roll weighs around 2000#, is 4' in diameter, by about 5' long. They'd set one on end. Then pick up a 2nd, rotate it and stack it on top of the 1st. Then they'd make another stack of 2. Finally, they'd pick the bottom roll of the 2nd stack and lift the 2 up on top of the other 2. So a 4000# lift to get them stacked 4 high. Then they'd stack a final 5th roll on top. They could to hundreds of rolls in a shift. We always had two clamp trucks. One charging and one working

Eventually, though, they traded them all out for propane powered units that they leased. The batteries were just too expensive to replace.

I’m told by an EE that battery technology continues to improve and Teslas next round of cars will have a life of the car battery guarantee. They estimate that the batteries will still be at 75% ten years out.

He’s waitlisted for a Ford electric pickup.

Unfortunately, the charge plugs and cords are NOT standardized. He won’t be able to charge up at a Tesla charge station, for example.

The more amps the faster the charge. He tells me that you really need 50 amps to the charging station to make an electric car a practical family vehicle. Just his opinion, not mine, as I just bought a new car and it’s gasoline powered.

It's actually 7 but it seems to have a 2 gallon buffer so you don't run it out. I put 5 in at E.
