Tallyhoe, that "rose" tree is a Magnolia Soulangiana (Oriental Magnolia). And a butchered one at that. Poor tree.

It looks Katrina-pruned to me. Those large branches look pretty jagged on the ends like they were snapped off instead of cut. Just a guess. . . .:)

I mowed my yard day before yesterday, then yesterday evening and this morning, I aerated the front yard, spread some grass seed, and fertilized it, then went 30 miles this morning to one daughter's house and helped her and her husband mow and edge their yard, then went by the other daughter's house and picked up her lawnmower and brought it home for me to service. And I watered my front yard this afternoon. So I'll either be working on a daughter's old lawnmower or working on my own yard the next few days.

On Sunday, my 10 year old daughter and I pruned our grape vines and fruit trees. Mid 20's. It was beautiful. The ice was 8" solid. Made for very nice, easy walking 1/2 mile to the other side of the lake. We had 4" of wet heavy snow last night with a few more expected today. That will start insulating the ice and turning it to mush. I hate to see winter end. :)

What was I thinking? Of course.

In this area we look forward to spring because when the leaves come back on the trees you can barely notice all the broken tops and branches from Katrina. :) In the dead of winter you can see just how violent Katrina was.:(

While we have a lot of signs of spring being here, we will have some more frosts before winter is completely over.

Took a look around Sun morning and found a number of flowers in bloom. Last week I saw a nice stand of daffodils in bloom down the road but this AM I've noticed a few are opening up here as well.

Love the Daphne, blooms for over a month and the fragrence is not unlike Jasmine or Orange blosoms. The fragence fills the whole front yard.

All in all, not bad for being just N of the 45th parallel.

I know its spring around here. There's not less than 8 dead skunks between here and work (for my 52 mile commute). Just about the time the car gets aired out I pass another one. Remember that song, "Dead skunk in the middle of the road".....:D

signed me, here in central Texas,

Hi All,

No spring here yet, just more snow.

Can someone send some global warming this way?

Tom

Wow! Very nice. I'm going to show your pictures to my wife too.

tomd999: What a contrast with Mickey_Fx. I got a shiver up my spine just thinking about how cold the seat on your tractor must be. I hope you get that "mess" over soon.
