I have talked my husband into a backhoe for the L2501- do you think it would be better to hold off on that?

Sorry- it is 14 acres total with 6 9of it pond. Less than an acre is finish mow. Just the part around the house is finish mow and the neighbors horses take care of that for me. No small choke points.

I apologize- I am on my phone and thought I was replying to each persons questions but it looks like it put them all at the end.

Go with the "L" series and forget the Back-hoe.Not enough reach to do much with a beaver dam.We have two in the family;L3300 and a L3000 and they are absolute work horses.I can't believe the size of some of the logs my son has hauled with his L3000.

As you will have a Front End Loader (FEL), which is ordered on practically every small tractor, what tasks do you see for the Backhoe that the FEL and bucket cannot complete? Are Backhoe specific tasks worth $5,000 price of the Backhoe?

Another question: How much work do you see doing with Three Point Hitch implements? The Backhoe has to be removed from the tractor in order to access the Three Point Hitch.

I have no experience with beaver dams but you will likely pull them apart with a 20' chain attached to key dam pieces running to the tractor rear/center drawbar.

If you decide the Backhoe is necessary, it will be 20% cheaper ordered with the tractor, rather than ordered later.

A Ratchet Rake bucket attachment is useful for removing brush and trees.

Depends on what your needs are, don't think you will regret getting a backhoe, likely use it more than you could imagine. Also may be able to make some extra cash doing odd jobs for people to help pay for it. Backhoe makes the tractor so much more useful, I can't picture having one without it unless I had a mini excavator to do the digging.

I have no experience with beaver dams but you will likely pull them down with a 20' chain attached to key dam pieces running to the tractor rear/center drawbar.

True- thank you for that input. I just thought while I had my husband talked into it I better do it- LOL! Okay I have the L2501 with FEL, bushhog, and box blade priced out. If I leave off the backhoe what other implements do you feel are great to have? While they are having the rebates and husband on board I better get my list checked off. I honestly could do without the backhoe.

A Ratchet Rake would be at top of my list. You can order a Ratchet Rake from the T-B-N store, button at top of page.

If you intend to have a kitchen garden, a PTO powered roto-tiller should be on the list. However, a small garden can be scratched in with the Ratchet Rake.

Besides pasture, determine expected uses for your additional land. Don't fish for implements. Give us a list of your needs and let respondents suggest implements based on experience.

Choosing which tractor one needs gets interesting!

For what you have described I'd take a serious look at the B with backhoe. The hoe, though small, will do a lot of small jobs for you. If patient bigger jobs can be done. Perfect for digging out and planting trees and such things. The loader work is the same situation as the backhoe. Takes patience. Don't get too hung up on horsepower unless rotating attachments are a priority.

I'm basing my opinions on 3000 hours with a 16 hp. Kubota B7100 working on sixty eight acres. It dug out trees & rocks, hauled dirt, pulled logs & rocks and rotatilled five acres of rocky soil. A larger tractor would have been nice but that was what was available. Currently a JD 4200 with backhoe is what I have. Just love the backhoe.

LINKS:

1. Drawbar chain grab hook, clevis mount: Hook for Drawbar on Tractor 3/4 Pin

2. Grade 70 - 5/16" chain - 20' Grade 70 Chain-Transport Chain | Agri Supply #12446

Grade 70 - 1/4" chain is sufficient for L2501 strain. 20' length with two grab hooks, in a plastic box, cheap at Walmart.

TRACTOR SUPPLY COMPANY will stock above too.
