It is likely that most JD dealers do not like having used orange (2004 = Mary Kay pink?) tractors sitting on their lots.
They want to sell NEW JDs!
They actually had a newer model M5 on the lot as well but a bit big for my uses so I didn't inquire and this one believe it or not isn't quite as 'pink' as my Cab 9 is...
I actually thought being a JD dealer and probably taking it on trade and not giving the previous owner much, they were willing to let it go for not much as well. Their loss, my gain. Pre 4 large frame FWA Kubota's demand premium prices right now. I sucked that up instantly. Drove 400 miles to buy it but they actually delivered it no charge.
If you peruse a site like Tractor House, you'll soon see a Pre 4 M9 with a loader, FWA, hydraulic shuttle in fair condition is commanding at least 25-28K, if you can find one that isn't beat that is. I got 2 buckets, 70% rubber and 3 sets of remotes with flow control with this one. Had to do some minor stuff (to the tune of 2100 bucks at my dealer) getting it to 100% but I still did just fine. Now I have 2 identical units, one cab, one open station that share filters, oil and hydraulic fluid plus the rubber is the same size and I can even exchange loaders if I want to.
I'd much rather have a big tractor versus a little one. I never seemed to have quite enough 'go power' until I finally stepped up to the large framed M series. If I remember correctly this is my 10th and 11th Kubota. 85 pto horses seems to be enough now.
