First use of snowblower w/o chains

Chains won't hurt asphalt unless you spin. Even that just takes the coating off.

Do your tire chains damage your asphalt at all? That was one of the biggest reasons I never tried chains.

They do leave their mark, so if you are peticular about how black your asphalt is, be cautious. Philip.

My previous plow vehicle, a Farmall Cub with ags, was useless without chains. With chains, however, it morphed into a real snow demon. The BX was very impressive without them, although as a previous poster stated, it is only the first storm.

I had chains on rear of my bx2660 with rear snow blower but took them off to see if it would still work and i was amazed at how good it worked with out chains. I have loaded turf tires. Turf tires work best in snow. Now i ant to get a plow for the front for those pesky 3" snows. Than i can do the 1/2 mile road quickley!

I use fel and back blade with my Bx2660 with r4 tires on asphalt drive with good slope and have not had any troubles. I do have chains but have yet to use them.

Thanks for the info on chains/asphalt. And yes I am particular on how it looks, the misses is even worse. So I will keep going with out chains and stay away from the ditches.

This is what I use with unfilled AG tires.
Works fine in 4 WD.

1*Just as I was putting the tractor back in the garage I noticed....that I hadn't even had it in 4wd!
1*You need to keep it in 4wd on any slope because even on a slight slope you don't have any front wheel breaking in 2wd.
A slck surface in 2wd is even worse.

2*I normally do most of my plowing in 2 wheel drive and try to save the four wheel if I really need it. If we get a storm of 8+ inches then i use the four wheel drive for the entire plowing.

I use chains, cause I don't want to be the next fatality in my driveway.
3*the first fatality was not due to ice).
3*I hope the first fatality was not a freind or relative.

I have chains for my BX24 but have not needed them. And we got 85" of snow last winter. and I only have turf tires installed. What I do think is necessary is my weight bucket on my 3pt hitch. I have the Kubota counter balance with about 400# of gravel in it. Never been stuck yet.

IMO you have to be on a steep grade to worry about putting chains on a 4 wheel drive. But i once tried to snowblow without my FEL on and the front did want to slide.

But if i lived in the mtns of Vt chances are I'd have a set. My tractor came with a set. **** nice ice chains, but the fenders are close and couldn't run out in the open road without rubbing on fenders.

I do like the sheet metal screws in the lugs.

we got a b26 with a 54" blower on the back but no ice chains here just a few small hex head sheet metal screws in the r4 tire lugs made a huge difference both in the wet slick packed in ice like snow and on the ice

This may be a dumb question, but what's the downside of doing this? Reduced tire life?
I'm not worried about my driveway, just worried about messing up dang expensive tires :)
