Just make sure you use float on your loader and the plow will follow the ground just like a truck mounted plow. once the ground is frozen you shouldn't need the shoes on, you may have to rake up some gravel in the spring though, I plowed with trucks for 20 years and the first thing I did with a new plow was raise or remove the shoes, allows you to clean down much better, was plowing mostly paved surfaces, you do have to be careful with gravel or going off the drive when the ground is soft, it's a bad feeling when you roll up a 2 ft in diameter piece of turf in some ones front lawn! (and still hope to get paid).
As far as the front chains go, if you already have the rears then the fronts would be a great compliment since when your pushing with an angled plow and the pile starts getting heavy it tends to push the vehicle in the opposite direction. JMO John.

Hi,
I just came accross your pic's. I like it. I just got a plow dropped in my lap for free and I would like to build your project. My FEL is a JD 460. Can you give me some specifics on the materials used. Like steel thickness and dimentions of the frame. Also, what did you make the quick attachment to the FEL out of? A piece of pipe? Thanks.

Now that you've had it a while. Do you have any changes you'd recomend?

All the steel is 1/4" thick. The center beam is 3x3, the outers are 3x2 and the angle iron at the bottom is 3x3. Deere sells the pieces needed to adapt to the loader, pins and hooks, I welded them to my frame. I think Deere charged about $50 for those bits.

I took the cheap route for the hydraulic hook up, orderd the parts from the Surplus Center, I disconnect the loader curl lines at the tractor and plug in the plow angle lines. SOme other folks here on TBN have more sophisticated set-ups with either electric or manual valve selectors.

I'm waiting for our first snow. Will let you know how it works.

Been a while.

I built the plow rig based on your photos. Used a 7 foot township plow someone gave me for free. Taught my self to weld too in the process. turned out pretty good. And works good too. I pushed 2 feet of snow with it. That is about all I can push with the blade angled before the front end heads for the ditch. Straight on I can push a mountain.

I ran my hoses from the Aux at the rear of the tractor. Works fine but I need a better way of keeping the hoses tied up. I have to pay close attention so I don't rip one off.
