Fixing Up the Ol Puter

We have a seven year old Compaq computer (windows 95) that is starting to act up. I am not very "mechanical" when it comes to computers but I think it is time for us to upgrade. The computer will take forever to down load information (Comcast Cable) and it will just freeze up and you need to reboot. If that isn't enough the defrag program will no longer work. Do you think if we changed hardrives that could help our problem? (Not really wanting to buy a new computer at this point.)

Have you run virius and spyware checks on the Compaq ?
Sounds like symptoms of infestations.

If your computer is that old, am I wrong in assuming cable modem is old too? Take the cable modem to a Comcast Center and ask for a new modem. I just switched to a new Motorola Surfboard SB5120, and got rid of a lot of connectivity problems.

I still have my Control Data computer form about '84, and the Zenith my son used all thru college starting in '87. The Zenith has twin 5 1/4 drives, the CD only one. I also still have the 9" monitor and star wheel dot matrix printer. I figure a museum someday...................
