Flail Mower Flail Mower right for me?

I've read all the flail mower posts w/ interest and have just about convinced myself a Coroni flail mower would be just the ticket.

I only have about 1.5 acres to mow. About half is blue grass planted yard that would be mowed weekly. The other half is currently in brush (very little over .5 inch) that I want to convert into additional yard.

Mow quality is paramount for me, but I understand a properly equipped flail mower can mow virtually as well as a finish mower. If mow quality is my #1 concern, will I be disappointed w/ the mow quality as compared to say a Land Pride finish mower? I understand I would need to keep the knives in good shape.

Being able to go after the brush on my property w/ the same mower would be ideal.

I also have 3 small kids that never seem to be quite far enough away to make me entirely comfortable when I'm mowing. The reduced projectile risk w/ a flail would also be nice.

I also like the idea of a flail since it would be 1) easier to remove than a MMM, and 2) smaller to store than a rear finish mower.

Thoughts, comments, observations appreciated.

I think you will be happy with the quality of cut froma flail mower if you use grass cutting blades and keep them sharp. You don't have to sharpen them often if you don't hit rocks. I used to use Mott Flail mowers when I was a kid and they worked great. The safety issue is a real major plus.

PS I'm looking for a used 84 or 96"

I like my Caroni flail a lot. I'd do it again no question. It cuts well, is tough and as you mentioned is safer around people. You can take it into places you'd never take a finish mower and it cuts much more cleanly than a bush hog. I have the TM1900 which is geared more towards pasture use so I'm sure the TL series will give an even finer cut.
