flail mowing

are flail mowers good for clearing and mulching under growth ? If so how big of trees will it work on ?

Perhaps you may receive more replies by posting in the "Attachment" forum here on TBN. In regards to your question, it largely depends on the size of mower you are looking at, plus the PTO rating of your Tractor. Most mowers have the specs in relation to their cutting capacity; included in the manual. If you are looking at a used one, just Google the manufacturer, make and model and you should find the answers. BTW, welcome aboard. :tractor:

Seems to be a LOT of variables to that questions, but there is a LOT of info on here. If you have not had a chance do a search for "Flail", or "Flail mowers" and you will be able to read for days!
I recently bought one and have since learned that there are several different types of "knives" or "blades" and each have their uses. I personally have kept my brush hog for the BIG stuff but plan on using my flail around the neighbors, roadside, and the field areas. I will run the hog is the woods where I am knocking down 2+" stuff and don't care if I throw something out from under the deck.
