When I drop the bucket on my new B2710 and place it in float position, to back drag it over soil to level it, sometimes the front wheels will leave the ground if I am backing up on a slope. I thought float let the bucket float on it's own weight independent of the wheels, i.e., the bucket will move independent of the tractor.

Is something wrong with my loader controller?

Sounds like it could be (if you're sure the lever is staying up in the float position). Sometimes if you don't hold the lever up there, a small bump will cause it to drop out of the float position. Your understanding of the way it's supposed to work is right.

Bird, Thanks for the reply. I have checked the lever and it is staying up when this happens. I'll have it checked.

Just remembered... I had a 4 in 1 bucket added so they fabricated a controller for that. I wonder if that affected the float option....

I have a new B7500. If I move my lever slowly to the float position it does raise my front wheels slightly. If I go quickly to the float position I don't seem to have a problem. I guess the hydrallics don't have time to re-act.

mdbarb, if they tapped off of power beyond, like I suspect they did for your 4 in 1 it wont effect your float at all. What Jethro said is also normal. If you are back dragging at a pretty good clip the front end will raise do to the hydraulic fluid just needing a little time to get back to tank. If you are trying to move forward at all in float the bucket may dig in and cause the front end to raise also.

KubMech, This is exactly what mine is doing. I understand it a lot better now, thanks.

What circumstances do you use your float position? Do you use the back of the bucket or the front edge curled down? With or without x-tra weight in the bucket?
