Something very wrong there. To the point that touching two pieces of equipment at the same time could be lethal. That flaw needs to be reported and fixed.
I've seen this situation in large computer systems.

You are right, I should have talked to the manager, but I assumed I'm not the only one experiencing it as a customer. The real danger would be to maintenance people who are working on compressors, power controls and such.

From the zing I felt, I think a voltmeter would show potential from a metal shelf to a steel support column going into the concrete floor for example. Or, maybe I am getting old and dried up, more static prone :D

Its probably just static energy from the carts, the new flooringor shoes to the shelf which is ungrounded, so there is a build up Electrical energy. Not really dangerous just anoying.
