Floating the FEL on a BX23

Thanks. That helped clear things up for me. I'm going to try it out tomorrow on the snow I didn't get today.

Junkman,

I can still tilt my bucket up or down while in the float position. I do it all the time while clearing snow, it's what makes it so useful on the pavement to grass transition. I can have the bucket edge down on the pavement and then rotate up when transitioning to the lawn all the while in float position. Are you sure the BX22 doesn't do the same?

Btolle,

As to a "float" in the dumping position, my BX has that also. Once you go past the detent pushing toward 3 o'clock position (I like that clock visual for discussing this, Kudos to Junkman), it puts the bucket into float and dumps faster which is also useful while moving snow as I can dump quicker.

I also have the 4 way valve, so I cannot tell you if it is just a function of that or something they all have but figured I would throw it out as others may have it and not be aware.

I will have to check into that further, but it won't be until warmer weather when the loader is back on. I might be thinking of my old Minneapolis Moline tractor that worked that way. At my advanced stage of "Senior Citizenship", I am lucky if I can remember where I last parked the tractor, no less all of the functions of the loader valve. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I find the older I get the more I forget, so applying that logic........ by the time I hit your age(or should I use my dads age /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) I should have forgotten about everything /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Seriously, I only have the loader to move snow as my drive is short, but I used it today and it worked wonderfully.

By the way I would also like to say thanks for all your contributions to this site you offer a lot of good insight and it is appreciated!

I Have Noticed That in cold weather, My float did not work on my LA402 until the the tractor was running for about 20 minutes or more. I thought that something was wrong at first, but after a few uses, I think that it is something to do with the hydraulic fluid warming up. I am not an expert on hydraulics, but this is my observation.

Joe...... I believe that this is a function of the type of hydraulic fluid that was originally installed in the tractor. I know that the BX22 comes from the factory with Super UDT installed. I have since learned that some of the other tractors that are shipped to the dealers in crates and the dealers finish the manufacturing process by installing the various accessories, such as the loader and or backhoe, they also install the hydraulic fluid. If one considers that the Super UDT is the most expensive of the tractor fluids that are generally used by the majority of the Kubota dealers, it is a strong possibility that the dealer didn't install Super UDT, but instead installed a lesser cost fluid. I know that the local Kubota dealer near me, is also a NAPA dealer and he doesn't even stock any of the Kubota oils. He uses NAPA hydraulic fluid in all the tractors that he sets up, as told to me by the parts man when I went there to get some Super UDT to top off my machine. You might want to ask the selling dealer what type of hydraulic fluid that your tractor was installed with. My BX22, the hydraulics are fully functional immediately after starting, no matter how cold the weather.

I can adjust the bucket tilt while in the float position on my BX2200.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( If you push the lever "harder" toward the 12 o'clock position, you will go past the position that puts the down pressure to the bucket, and the bucket is now in the float position. The lever will stay in this position until you pull it back (toward the 6 o'clock position. You can not change the angle of the bucket (by moving the lever toward the 3 or 6 o'clock position) until you first remove it from the float position.)</font>

On both the B7100 I owned and the B7510 I currently own you can tilt the bucket when it is in the float position. That is very handy when leveling dirt.

I start with the bucket tilted all the way down and in the float position. As I back up I gradually tilt the bucket up until the bottom of the bucket is flat on the ground. That 'feathers' the dirt out.

Same here on my BX23. Great feature, glad to learn of it here.
