I'm not going anywhere, but I will harden my property. All pines are now gone. Lots of trees removed. New roof tomorrow ($25,000) gasp--but its the same amount as the insurance company said. The camp is harder--hurricane shutters, new deck on pilings, not posts. Replace the siding with cement siding. move all electrical up to the 2nd floor. A level 3 hurricane I'll stay a mild 4 maybe. A high 4 like katrina, I'd go again. A five, bye, bye--File the insurance, take your licks, and rebuild. No need to die.

Another friend of mine stayed in New Orleans East. She stayed because her mother wouldn't leave. The roof came off. Then the ceiling collapsed. They decided to leave the next morning. Then the water started rising. They squeezed out of the window onto the little part of the roof left. Two days on the roof. Helicopter ride to the superdome. 4 days on the highway just waiting. Bus ride to Baton Rouge. Pickup up by friends and back to the great Mecca of Slidell Louisiana.

This weekend maybe I'll try to get the tractor going. Underwater for a week--who knows--if not, a rebuilt engine.
