I have got the shot every year for - it seems - 10-15 years. Have had a mild (day long) illness that could have been the stomach flu twice. So I will continue to get them.

For "some" who have become ill after getting the shot, note that the shot is not effective - I have heard- for about 10-14 days after you get the shot.

I saw my primary care doctor yesterday and he said I should get the Prevanor 13 pneumonia shot, so I did. I got the old pneumonia shot on 2/9/2007, but then when 2 doctors disagreed on whether one was enough or not, one of them gave me a second pneumonia shot on 9/10/2013. So I'm all up to date on vaccinations.

Your doc is right. Prevnar 13 is worth getting even after the 23 valent older vaccine. The new vaccine isn't as broad ((13 vs 23 strains of pneumococcus) but it "tricks" the immune system into making a more vigorous response. It kicks it up a level. The old one is worthwhile because it covers ten strains not covered by the new one.

hospitals require it because obama care forced on hospital employees so drug companies can sell more vaccines

I always knew that cutting private health insurance companies in on the action was a big mistake. Obamacare was supposed to put a leash on the insurance company death panels, but they still have them. They should have just wiped out the whole health insurance industry.

I was thinking of this thread today...

A number of nurses are out sick... enough so that it is causing staffing issues.

The ironic thing is the nurses that did the declination and have been wearing face masks are not sick.

My simple mind thinks maybe wearing a mask is more effective than the flue shot in the SF Bay Area in 2017?

It is pretty acute and all the supervisors are out except for me.... I did not have the shot and have declinated for years.

Handwashing is even more important than masks. Seems counterintuitive when trying to avoid something like a cold or flu but it's true. Masks only protect you from people who cough at you from within arms length (about a meter). Touching doorknobs, tables, chairs, anything that another (ill) person has touched within the past day is what transfers most respiratory viruses. You contaminate your hands and then unconsciously touch your eyes or mouth and bingo, you're exposed.

I do wash often with the Hospital Soap...

In general, I try to avoid touching things like handles and doors when out in public... I will push open a glass door from the frame about 5 to 6' above the floor just avoid areas that are frequently touched.

And that is why you have to work while everyone else is on paid sick leave. :confused3:

We know a guy that...last year....got his flu shot at the county office and got hit by a pick up truck walking thru the parking lot back to his car. Talk about bad luck.......he's fine now.....not sure if he ever got the flu. My wife and I both get the shot every year and we're very careful walking back to our truck.
