fluid replacement

On my B2150, I noticed that my hydraulic fluid was a bit low.
I don't know what type of fluid was used. Is it satisfactory to use transmission fluid to top off?

Also, my manual specifies 10/30 motor oil, but 15/40 is much more prevalent. Would 15/40 be an o.k. replacement?
Does anyone know what number NAPA oil filter to use as replacement and has actually used it?

Re: fluid replacement

I don't think transmission fluid is the same thing. Could be wrong on that, but it is probably worth it to pick up a quart of hydro fluid - you can get it at your dealer, over the internet (check out some of the advertisers on the board), or at your local auto parts supplier.

Using a different weight of oil should be fine. Just make sure it is correct for the temperatures you'll be operating in, and don't mix viscosities (change the oil and refill to what you'll be using).

There is a NAPA filter you can use (also a WIX, I think), but I just use the Kubota filters, mostly because I'm lazy. Check out the Oil, Fuel & Lubricants forum and do a search - I've seen this topic posted a few times. But the Kubota filter isn't a whole lot more expensive (if your dealer charges a lot, check out the web suppliers).

But I think you should pick up hydraulic fluid rather than trying to use automatic transmission fluid. I'm no expert, but they are different colors, which can't be a good thing...
