How can one get a foldable ROPS for the 4100?

A competent and reputable machine shop should have no problem making the conversion however you need to feel very sure that they know what they are doing, as you are staking your life on their competence.

This is what I did.
I got foldable ROPS with my 4300 but they were to tall (I knew that ahead of time) A machine shop blew the welds of so I could reuse the folding brackets. I cut the tube off a few inches and rewelded.
In your case I would take some pic's of a foldable rops. If you don't have the equipment and or skill I would hire it done. remove your roll bar and build a new one the way you want it. make sure it's stronger than the original. If and when you ever sell or trade it will save you buying a new roll bar. I was informed that a modified rops could have ever lasting responsonbilty. You would be liable if the rops failed another owner down the road. atlest that is what I was told. If I had more time I would have done it this way, so it will cost me $600 one day for new rops.

Nuru,
To get around the liability issue if you ever sell the 4100 you just have 1. Make a disclosure in the bill of sale that you did alter the rops. 2. Sell the tractor as is with no implied warranties or guaranty. If you do these two things you can't be held liable for any defects.

Or better yet - purchase a foldable ROPs and have the dealer install it. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Oh yes very true but I know that Nuru was on a limited budget on this tractor. I think it's around a grand to get one and have it installed.

I'm not sure how the prices compare, but when I bought my B2410 the folding ROPS was an extra $200 (list). I went back and forth on which type to get, and my dealer was very flexible about swapping one out for the other for negligible cost, right after the sale. Isn't Nuru's machine pretty new? Maybe his dealer would consider the swap for just the difference in original pricing, instead of charging him for a whole new ROPS. Just a thought.

...Where's my sawzall? ...

Reminds me of a story...

A couple years back, one of my guys was leaving his house to come to work... outside in the street was a neighbor trying to fit a "sunroof kit" to his car {the sunroof was more valuable than the car it was being installed in...}

Anyhow, Andy said he would cut the hole, but it had to be quick or he'd be late to work... he grabbed his Milwaukee Sawzall and jumped up on the car {with the customer's permission and some quick measuring and marking} and plunged the Sawzall into the guys car roof...

Andy said it took him maybe less than a minute and the sunroof fit perfect... {the interior headliner was another problem...}/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I keep hearing that the 4100 does not have the option of a foldable ROPS, are you guys saying that there actually is one available?

There is one shown in the 4100 parts catalog for the European models.

Nuru, you might want to consider whether or not you'll ever want a canopy before you buy a folding ROPS. I originally wanted one for my 4100, but after mowing in the hot sun and snow plowing in the blowing snow, I decided that a canopy would make using my machine a lot more comfortable. I don't see how you could use a fiberglass (or any other ridgid material) canopy with a folding ROPS.

Jyoutz; I am actually looking at a Golf-cart softcab to provide a moisture/windscreen in the snow, that can be used on a Folding ROPS. For heat, I would just use my big umbrella and duct tape it to my seat! The rigid cabs are way, way, too expensive for me. I do like the heater/blower units though.

Nuru, the rigid cabs are too costly for me too. You might check into a fiberglass canopy like I have. $300 or so will buy one of these if you shop around. They are tough and look good also. I got mine from firebirdfiberglass.com. The model which is made for a 4100 is called a bucktop canopy.

Jyoutz, I looked at the Bucktop too.. to support my Golf Cart soft canopy, it looks like a good combination.

I happen to live in Arizona, so I drove to the factory and directly purchased a "blem" bucktop for a big cost savings. They won't sell direct to people unless you buy a blem. Otherwise you have to go through your dealer to order them. You might consider a blem-the onlt thing wrong with mine is a few small bubbles in the clear paint top coat. I'm sure they will ship a blem to you direct.

jyoutz, Hey, BTW, I lived in Az in Chandler for 6 years, i had an STX38 then, my neighbors laughed at me for using the lawn tractor and not a normal mower, they did until it got hot and they were mowing their lawns in 110 deg weather and it took a couple of hours, where I was done in 15 - 20 minutes with a beer!
