Folding Cutting Table Question????

Now wait a minute Terry..... I just now finished building the folding braces. Only took 4 hours.....

I wanted to create a lever system that you could step on with your foot and lower the casters. Some sort of locking method that only required another step on the peddle to release and let the table down on the leg pads.

Then I thought about it and decided I would want adjustable pads so I could level the table wherever I parked it. So I took the easy way out.

Why don't you do something like what those big movie stair cases have at menards, lowes,etc... I think that would give you a good base design

The pink is a flat bar. The red are c-channel to hold the flat bar. Flip up the table, slide the bar into a holder. Do this for both sides. The flat stores out of the way on the table. No extra parts needed. Make it half the length of the swing up portion so it doesn't stick out. Easy!

I had a beer when I got home from work to better prepare myself to help you solve this problem. Which led to another... and another... and now I don't think I'm much help.

I'll try to sketch up the geometry needed for the folding, no tools, no floppy parts (of the table) idea that should work for you... but it might not be tonight! *grin*

How about a swing out arm with an adjustment rod/bolt -- mounted on the inside of the orange legs. (Opposite face of where the hinges are.)

Instead of the threaded rod use a bolt that you can use a cordless impact to raise to the right height.

If you mount them offset at different heights (or depths) they will fold completely out of the way if you lower the bolts.

If you mouse over the pic it expands, but it's still hard to see the actual mechanism - we used these all over my last workplace, but they weren't real easy to lift onto the wheels EMPTY, might have to mod the geometry a bit to get one to lift a serious weld table.. Steve

Okay guys, thank you very much for all the ideas!!!! I have committed to folding braces.

Thanks to LD1 for giving me two bits of critical information in the design. 1) distance from the hinge pin at the table down to the bracket at the bottom of the table leg, and the distance from the hinge pin at the table out horizontally to the bracket on the cutting table MUST be the same length. 2) The two pieces of flat bar that make up the hinging brace have to be drilled exactly the same length between the hinge pin hole and the hole at each end.

If not, you could always mock some up with strips of cardboard for confirmation on the design

Yup. Got to love phones. Got a samsung s6 and the key boards are "supposed to adapt to use" and I don't check half what I say so I have alot of mistakes
